ZOO Antwerpen Antwerp zoo

Can anybody tell me how much exhibits are now in Nocturama since it was renovated a few years ago ? I belive I have read anywhere around 7, but when the house was opened in 1969, there were 33 exhibits in it.

How much and what species the Zoo is keeping today in the House ?

Are there any Pictures in the Gallery ? If yes, where can I find them, there are 44 pages with Pictures....

Antwerp (and Plankendael actually) have a new map produced by a Danish company who have done a number of other plans.

I think it's really beautiful

Plan van de ZOO | ZOO Antwerpen

Rotterdam Zoo also has the same map stlye but it doesn't fit the size of paper as well as the antwerp zoos and so doesnt work as well. They also need to add the three routes on there, ocean, gorilla and elephant, as they have on maps around the zoo, to make it easier for the visitor to follow.

Having visited the Antwerp zoo a few months ago, I can tell they really did a great job in reflecting the atmosphere of the zoo on this map.

A Kirk's dikdik has been born at Antwerp Zoo. Mother is Mata, father is Moto. The young has been named Olani.

In the latest Zoo - magazine several intresting bird-hatchlings are mentioned for the last months ! Among them :

2 White-crested turacos

5 Yellow-knobbed curassow
6 Congo peacocks
1 Goldie lorikeet
12 Black crakes
4 Von der Decken's Hornbills
4 African grey hornbills
3 White-rumped shamas

After 5 years trying to breed the criticaly endangered Luristan newt, Antwerp Zoo has managed to raise one young :). Hopefully more will follow in the future !

Already on June 30 a Southern Three-banded Armadilla was born at Antwerp Zoo. To get sure the young would be raised succesfull, mother and female baby were kept behind the scenes. Now they are both put on display in the Nocturnal House.
For Antwerp this was the first breeding with this species.

For almost a year, there are big renovation works going on at the Aquarium-building of the Antwerp ZOO.
It's scheduled to re-open fully in the spring of 2014.
A big addition to the building will be a great coral reef, with this as the current situation:

Another big investment for the next year, will be the renovation of all the bird-avairies.
