The recent death of their anaconda leaves a large empty enclosure inside the reptile house.

Just checked the masterplan and yes they are planned for the aquarium

Chances are that the zoo will put their second anaconda on exhibit in that enclosure. Alongside are a pair of juvenile freshwater crocodiles so I doubt they would put more in the anaconda enclosure.

I will miss quiet coffees in the morning with the Aldabara tortoises; They were the perfect animal to watch while slowly sipping a hot drink.
Children are much less interesting. :)

An orphan Goodfellow's tree kangaroo raised in a world first technique. From Facebook:

He needed a nice warm pouch to grow big and strong in, so Adelaide Zoo tried something that had never been done before... a Yellow-foot Rock-wallaby was found to be his surrogate mum. Up until now this special breeding technique, known as 'cross-fostering', has only been done with closely related wallaby species.

A couple of updates from the zoo today

-As part of the construction for the playground the Barbary sheep have moved to Monarto with their enclosure now being empty.
-In the reptile house the Inland taipan is back on exhibit following their exhibit being closed for the past year for maintenance. The Fijian banded iguana is currently off exhibit for 'maintenance.'
- Makia, the baby tree kangaroo, is on exhibit out the front of the nocturnal house for part of the day now.
- A new African grey parrot is now on exhibit.
- 2 new malleefowl are on exhibit.

so there are none at Adelaide at all any more? Do you know if this is temporary or permanent?
 
Yes there are now none at Adelaide.

The sign announcing their move made it unclear whether this was temporary or permanent. They are not included in the new masterplan though and a portion of their enclosure sits inside the area of the playground with the rest part of the next development so I think it is more than likely to be permanent.

thanks for that. I thought it most likely they wouldn't be returning.
 
Updates from a visit yesterday.

- Giant tortoises have now moved to the former peccary enclosure which has had quite a nice renovation.
- The American alligators have also moved alongside the capybara's. Photos of both are in the gallery.
- A new goodfellow's tree kangaroo was on exhibit.
 
News from a visit the other day

- A pair of scarlet macaws have gone on exhibit in an aviary at the entrance to the panda exhibit. They share their exhibit with a flock of crimson-bellied conures.
