Prague Zoo Praha Animal news from zoo Praha

A new female Honey Badger has arrived at the Zoo on Christmas. It came from South africa. The former female has escaped from the zoo and dissappared in the area, probably she's dead by now. The pair has raised four young, so the zoo hopes to breed again with the new pair.

If a Honey Badger has escaped, I would expect quite a lot of things to be dead......

The new elephant house will be opened later this year, but its only for elphants, the hippos will stay in their present house.

?

I remember distinctly the western side is the Elephant house and exhibit and the smallish eastern side is the Hippo house. See for reference sake all the exhibit design drawings.

Yes, it does work, and it's possible to get a translation from the original Czech version.
It looks really good and for me will firmly cement Prague into the top 3 of Europe's zoos.

In that link you posted, it said "two other females that have already arrived." Is this true? Are there already two other breeding females at the zoo? If so, where did they come from?

Two female elephants in Rotterdam Zoo are now being seperated from the group and are being send to Prague in the (near?) future, as soon as their exhibit is done. From the top of my head it'll be Douanita and Tonya...

It actually says two females will meanwhile arrive not that they have already arrived, probably somethign lost in translation. Probably Douanita and her calf.

Indeed, something lost in translation. I assume someone used the Google translation yiffy, hence the word already arrived as opposed to should be arriving soon .... (note: already versus soon in particular).

I am glad that Rotterdam has been so magnimonuous - due to force of circumstance - to do the right thing and at last provide the Czech Republic with a potentially natural breeding group. Rest assured they will be well looked after at Zoologicka zahrada da Praha.

The lechwe is 4th lechwe born this year, all 3 previous (15th, 19th and 21th january) were females, this one is a male.

what happened about the proposed swap of Orangutan females with Jersey. Has it been called off now?

Do you mean Mawar and Upita or something more recent?

Mawar has gone to Prague but Upita was found to be infertile, I was told she would go to Israel but that doesn't seem to have happened, last I saw Padang was with both of them and Upita seemed to be getting on well with Mawar's young son.
