Planet Zoo Animals That Planet Zoo Needs!

Look, calm down. These are just birds that the fans would like, and it's part of what I would like to see in the future. I'd love to know your opinions on animals you'd like to see added, but remember, this is just an opinion forum.
Sorry for seemingly attack you it was not my intention, it is indeed your opinion and I'm expressing my opinion too, but your pack idea is literally incoherent with itself, because if it's an aviary pack it should sell animals that exclusively work with it, I'm giving my opinion on your opinion.
Also, Zoo Tycoon 2 had ambient squirrels, frogs, fish and birds. And it too was a zoo simulator.
That's a mistake of mine, I thought you guys were talking about animal rides.

No worries. Maybe a name like "avian animal pack" would have worked better.

Alright, so starting 2024, we have another paradigm shift, with two more DLC's;

07-04-24 Aquarium Pack
Along with this DLC expansion, there would be a free update, with new mechanics;
  • Aquariums; watertight walls can be turned into tanks, alla Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2, with the option of putting in access ladders too.
  • Dolphinariums; using the animal ambassador mechanics, this would allow for an aquatic stage and larger seating. Hoops, balls, buoys, etc. Would also be included, and sea lions, harbour seals and otters would already be compatible.
  • Mini-aquariums; fully aquatic exhibits; axolotls and great crested newts would be retconned to this sort of exhibit.
New architectonic theme: Aquarium (Calatrava-inspired, lots of aquatic decorations)
New animals:
  • Atlantic bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus truncatus)
  • Sand tiger shark (Carcharias taurus)
  • Giant oceanic manta ray (Mobula birostris)
  • Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas)
    • Ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
All manner of natural underwater scenery (rocks and plants) would be included.

21-06-24 Marine Animal Pack
New animals:
  • Australian pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus)
  • Sea otter (Enhydra lutris)
  • Zebra shark (Stegostoma tigrinum)
  • Atlantic goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara)
    • Regal blue tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
    • Moorish idol (Zanclus cornutus)
    • Giant Pacific octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini)
    • Atlantic horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus)
New scenery include large mock coral reefs.

I'm trying to come up with what kinds of DLC packs I'd like to see...

Urban Wildlife: This pack would feature animals found in urban environments around the world. It would also include an urban building theme, I think builders would go nuts for that. Animal roster could be something like:

Red fox
Sika deer
Chacma baboon
Raccoon
Southern alligator lizard (exhibit species)

Deserts: Animals from the desert. Building theme could maybe be a Wild West thing.

Ringtail
Caracal
Bighorn sheep
Bactrian camel
Thorny devil (exhibit species)

Tropical Forests: Tropical forests are so diverse in wildlife, you can't go wrong with a pack. Since we already have some packs that have rainforest-style decor, I think this could just be an animal pack.

Ocelot
Matschie's tree kangaroo
Gray langur
Coquerel's sifaka
Collared peccary
Indian muntjac
Two-toed sloth
Orchid mantis (exhibit animal)

Ungulata: I don't expect PZ to make packs based around taxonomic groups, but I'd be really happy if they did! It would be an easy way to include commonly requested species as well as some more obscure ones, and add diversity to the overall game.

Gerenuk
Eurasian wild boar
Dik-dik
Red river hog
Greater kudu
Elk
Markhor
Musk ox

Carnivora: Another all-animals pack.

Fishing cat
Aardwolf
Walrus
Fossa
Maned wolf
Wolverine
Spectacled bear
Ratel

Wonderful idea for a DLC, buuut... Isn't the bactrian camel part of the game already? Maybe you meant the dromedary?

Finally, the game's fifth anniversary has dawned. No-one knows what may have changed then, and whether or not Planet Zoo may be replaced by another, more advanced game, but in celebration of this momentous occasion, there would be an anniversary update, absolutely unheard of in terms of new content;

The only day Frontier is gonna be this generous is the day they get bought by someone else much less greedy than them, so in this instance your "pack" idea is totally unrealistic and out of the world without any minimal doubt

XDDD True, true... Still, wouldn't it be lovely? But ok, if I had to pick like 1 animal in the update... I'd actually go with the tamarin. It's a SUPER common zoo animal whose absence is greatly noted.

Ok, it looks like Frontier read my mind and stole my “Endangered Animal Pack” idea, right down to the Axolotl exhibit and adding brachiation. No worries, though! I’ve got another wonderful idea for a pack, and this one’s a regular pack with a building theme! Introducing… the Mountains/Alpine Pack! I like to think of this pack as a throwback/tribute to the Alpine biome from Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2 that kind of got mashed together with Boreal Forest to create Planet Zoo’s Taiga Biome. As for the animals, here’s what I’ve chosen:
  • The 4 habitat animals in this pack each represent a mountain range from their respective continents, and to keep with the soft “throwback” theme of the pack itself, they are all species from past Zoo Tycoons! First up is the Markhor, representing the Himalayas. I’ve already said that Planet Zoo needs more greater Asian ungulates, and we’ve certainly gotten some more with the Water Buffalo and the Wild Horse. Like the wild horse, the Markhor has been in both ZT1 and ZT2, but it has yet to make an appearance in PZ. Plus, how could you look at those horns and not include them.
  • Representing the Andes mountains is the Andean Bear. I know some people in the PZ community don’t really want another bear, but I think that’s more the fault of Frontier adding the Himalayan Brown Bear and not bothering to make it look different from the grizzly than there being “too many bears”. The Andean Bear is also another South American animal, which we definitely need more of!
  • Africa’s Ethiopian Highlands are represented by the Gelada. I know Planet Zoo already has a lot of African animals, but there are still some key ones missing, namely a baboon species (yes I know Geladas aren’t true baboons, but they’re an African primate that doesn’t live in rainforests, which is more of what I mean). Frontier could also include their iconic “lip-flip” for a bit of flair.
  • I struggled to find a decent animal to represent the Rockies of North America, but I ultimately settled on the Wolverine. I’ve wanted this animal for a while now, but it missed the bus for both the North American Animal Pack and the Europe Pack! This might be the “flagship” of the pack, but I could reasonably see any one of these 4 filling that role.
  • For the exhibit animal, I’ve chosen the Mangshan Pit Viper because we’ve yet to get a DLC snake, and also because we don’t have many Asian exhibit animals (just the forest scorpion and the leaf insect).
As for the building theme, I imagine it would be something that would let you build a convincing ski lodge (I don’t know much about building themes, sorry). The free update for this pack could also reintroduce the elevation mechanic from the zoo tycoon games, but more refined so that an optimal snow leopard habitat isn’t a giant hill with bad viewing.
Current species that are good candidates to have elevation requirements include the Snow Leopard, Alpine Ibex, Dall Sheep, Cougar, Llama, and Himalayan Brown Bear.
And that’s it! Will Frontier steal this idea, too? Who knows?

You know, amongst the community it is actually growing this kind of Mountain/Highlands theme for the next pack mainly for ZT2 nostalgia, so you hit 2 strikes without realizing :eek::cool:

I actually had a very similar idea to this, with the markhor, Andean bear, gelada, and Mangshan pit viper all part of my concept. However, mine was an animal pack, and instead of the wolverine, I had the American mountain goat, wild yak, Palla's cat, and alpine marmot.

Since @JigerofLemuria made his own roadmap, I'd like to share my own:

2022

Late August/Early September: Desert Animal Pack and update 1.11(color is supposed to be yellow but I'm preventing you an eyesore)
With the desert being the most underrepresented biome in the game adding some animals wouldn't hurt a bit, it's an animal pack because the moroccan building theme already fits the desert as a biome quite well.

Animals featured are;
  • Dromedary Camel, the camelid we were all waiting for, representing the Sahara Desert and North African region;
  • Stryped Hyena, despite being another canid it's a ZT2 throwback, representing the Middle East deserts;
  • California Quail, representing the dry rocky desert of North America and a much needed member of the bird family, and the oddball of the pack;
  • Chacoan Peccary, if you ever went on a trip by the game's files, you'd be surprised to find a "Peccary" folder despite no Peccary being found in the game, until now!;
  • Addax, another ZT2 and african antelope;
  • Eastern Kiang, representing the Gobi (and its non captive relative, the Gobi wild ass) and another equid;
  • Emu, representing the Outback and another bird, australian and highly requested animal;
  • Inland Taipan, the first snake species after a row of amphibians (don't get me wrong, I love amphibians as they were highly under represented) and another terrarium australian animal;
  • Props include animals' signs, desert foliage and enrichment items.
New free mechanics in the update feature:
  • Burrows for Timber Wolf and Fennec;
  • Deep diving for the Baird's and Malayan Tapir;
  • Brachiation for the Chimpanzee, Bonobo and Orangutan;
  • Various QoL changes and bug fixes.

Late October (around Halloween time): Scary/Nocturnal Pack and update 1.12
With the pack finally releasing on Halloween time, it's time for a spooky themed pack and (mostly) creatures of the night in it!

Animals picked are:

  • Tasmanian Devil, this charismatic, elusive and rare animal is one of the highest ranked in the community's wishlist megathread, and another much needed and quintessential animal;
  • Bolivian Night Monkey, as much as it's not a famous or requested animal, every pack needs an oddball, and this nocturnal South American primate is not what we wanted, but what we deserve;
  • North Island Brown Kiwi, another bird and a very peculiar and request one too! Second Australian animal of the pack;
  • Large Hairy Armadillo, unique animal that is also much requested from the community;
  • Tokay Gecko, this highly nocturnal reptile adds a bit of color into this pack's roster;
  • Props include animal signage, Gothic theme, statues, grotto and cavern pieces and enrichment items.
Free Update includes:
  • Free Halloween themed decorations and enrichment items such as sculpted pumpkins, lights and dead foliage;
  • Deep diving for the Asian Elephant;
  • Interactive education stations with lights;
  • Bug hotels for Fireflyes;
  • Realistic day-night activity time for the animals as well as artificial light need and stress.
  • Various QoL changes and bug fixes.
19th November: PZ Birthday and update 1.13
As PZ birthday kicks off we have as follows in the free update:
  • Free animal, the Grevy's Zebra;
  • Hotels and guest accomodation, with one or more acceptation booth and rooms being connected to the booth, kind of like restaurants work in game;
  • Complete revamp of the exhibit system, with more tank sizes, new decorations and decoration system and dynamic effects of the humid and heat levels inside of the exhibit;
  • Free DLC, the Exhibit Animal Pack, sporting 10 new exhibit animals, which are:
  1. Frilled Lizard;
  2. Green Anaconda;
  3. Blue Poison Dart Frog;
  4. Tuatara;
  5. Black Widow;
  6. Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle;
  7. Rio Cauca Caecilian;
  8. Madagascar Hissing Cockroach;
  9. Violinist Crab;
  10. Ocellated Lizard;
  • Various QoL changes and bug fixes.

It's summer, it's hot outside, I'm bored, and I've got another pack idea! I've had this one in my head since the days of the Europe Pack, but I've changed the animals at least 5 different times since then. I present to you... the Island Animal Pack! Like the Mountains/Alpine Pack, this pack is also a "throwback" pack of sorts, but not to anything official! I'm not sure if Frontier would do something like this, but this pack is a throwback to Artifex's Island Excursions expansion for Zoo Tycoon 2. However, most of the animals in Island Excursions aren't common in captivity (or even in captivity in the first place), so the animals I've chosen for this pack aren't from IE, with one exception.
The "theme" I picture Frontier going with is a sailing expedition, much like the road trip for the North America Animal Pack. It would chronicle a clueless sailor following a map to a buried treasure on "the other side of the world". But what about the animals? Well, this sailor has never seen any of these animals before, and to make this post a little different, I've decided to not reveal what the animals are! You have to guess what and where they are based on the descriptions I give! Remember, it's one animal per island, no repeats! Here we go!
  • Our poor, clueless treasure hunter follows his map to a fairly large island with a dry forest of thorny trees. In the middle of the night, he hears strange, ghostly sounds, and sees shadows leaping through the trees! Suddenly, the "ghosts" scatter, and the sailor sees what made them do so: a sleek, cat-like creature with a long tail and glowing eyes. Scared out of his wits, the sailor runs back to his boat and leaves!
  • The map leads the sailor to a tropical island with lots of mountains. He's minding his own business, when all of a sudden, something soft crash-lands right on top of him! The creature is brown and gold, with a second head on it's stomach! The sailor and the creature exchange looks before going their separate ways.
  • The sailor spies a shipwreck on a beach, and comes ashore to investigate. Maybe there's treasure in here? He sticks his arm into a hole in the wreckage, but immediately regrets it! Something just bit his hand! As he backs away from the shipwreck, the creature that attacked him starts to follow him; all he sees is an armored, multi-jointed leg before he hurries back to the boat to tend to his hand and get out!
  • The maps leads our sailor friend to an island that isn't as warm or tropical as the others he's visited. All through the night, he hears snarling, growling, and screeching! He steels himself up to investigate, and comes across something even more horrifying than the sounds: a stout, dark-furred animal with a blood red face! "A demon!", he cries out before turning tail and spending the night on his boat.
  • The sailor follows his map to another temperate island, and thankfully, there are no demons here! But there aren't a whole lot of furry creatures here, either. That all changes when our intrepid explorer spies a brown fuzzball poking around in the dirt. "Could it be looking for treasure, too?" he says as he approaches it. Before he can get too close, though, the fuzzball sprints away on two legs! Confused, the sailor heads back to his boat and sets sail again.
  • After several days of seeing nothing but ice and ocean, the map leads the sailor to a rocky island with lots of cliffs. Along the coast, he sees... tiny men in tuxedos? No, it couldn't be... Why would a bunch of sharply-dressed men with bushy, golden eyebrows be hopping over the rocky coast? As much as he wanted to come ashore and investigate, he had to keep sailing. And so he did.
  • As he followed his map, the sailor swore he saw a sea monster swimming next to his boat! But that would be silly, right? As he passed the coast (which was starting to feel warm and tropical again), he saw a whole bunch of sea monsters basking in the sun! Their backs were covered in spines, and their scaly skin was adorned with red and greenish-blue hues. As one crawled onto the shore from the ocean, it blew out some smoke from its nose! "Good thing I'm not on the beach with them..." thought the sailor as he passed them.
  • Finally, the sailor reached the other side of the world! This island was the ideal tropical paradise! Palm trees, white sand beaches, and a big "X" not too far away! Before he could start digging, though, the sailor saw a mermaid lazing on the shore. She had long hair, but it was on her lips instead of the top of her head. She had a tail, but it wasn't scaly and pretty. And her singing voice was... more of a bark. Oh well, that treasure wasn't going to uncover itself! The sailor grabbed his shovel, started digging, and uncovered... the animals he saw on his trip in the form of various set pieces? What a weirdly specific treasure...
Can you guess what 8 animals the sailor saw? I will reveal them in a separate post after a few guesses have been made. This is the most effort I've ever put in one of these Planet Zoo posts, holy cow. That'll be all for now!

Fossa, tree kangaroo, coconut crab, I *assume* lowland anoa or Tasmanian devil, North Island brown kiwi, rockhopper penguin, either Grand Cayman blue or marine iguana and walrus?

I sometimes talk with Thrive from time to time and discuss the big animals that Planet Zoo still needs. Part of the reason I was genuinely peeved with the Europe Pack wasn't even the pack itself, but rather the timing. Then again, given that the Europe Pack basically signified that we were going to get more content (especially SIAMANGS), I should have given it its proper dues. That said, this is the list he and I compiled of stuff that we feel would make the game feel a lot more complete:

Black Rhinoceros: completes the rhino trifecta, I honestly see this as an anniversary animal.
Sloth Bear: I think people wouldn't have been as mad about how many bears we had if this was one of the selections rather than Himalayan brown bear. If they use alpha-planes for the hairs but do so in a way that's optimal and not performance-draining, that would be ideal.
Andean Bear: Same deal as above, should have been a base game animal.
Nile Crocodile: The original model for the saltwater crocodile that took its place is way too plasticine for my taste, and I do think that even if it's "yet another crocodilan", this would be a worthy addition.
Dromedary Camel: Basic zoo animal. Need I say more?
Maned Wolf: Even if this is "just another canine", it's unique enough that it's a worthy addition.
Two-Toed Sloth (either Linnaeus' or Hoffman's): Essential.
Black-and-White Colobus Monkey: This would fill a *lot* of primate quotas. With only the capuchin, proboscis monkey and (thankfully) now the siamang, this would be a worthy addition even with the jank climbing.
Markhor: Building on the ibex rig, but utilizing new animations and shaggy fur like the Przewalski's Horse tail, this would be amazing to have.
North American River Otter: Almost completes the otter list, and while I'd 200% be satisfied with these three... a spotted-necked otter would be nice.
Sichuan Takin: Absolutely unique animal that only Frontier could knock out of the park.
Tasmanian Devil: Given its #1 placement on the meta-wishlist, I believe that this could be the flagship animal or one of the animals of *the* next DLC. It was the same deal with the Amur leopard and the capybara for Conservation and Wetlands DLCs respectively.
Wombat: Worthy addition, love how we're slowly getting drip-fed Australian animals over time.
Kiwi: Another flightless bird, but unique and CUTE enough to pass.
Perentie: The first DLC monitor since the komodo dragon, and would also be a welcome addition.
Coati: Small mammal houses/small carnivores need more love, and this would be highly welcome.
Spider Monkey: Given the precedence of the brachiation frames, spider monkeys are basically a shoe-in.

Time to reveal the 8 mystery animals and why I chose them!
  • The cat-like ghost scarer was indeed, a Fossa! I don't think implementing the Fossa would be all that hard, since they were in Zoo Tycoon Nuts and Bolts-I mean Zoo Tycoon for the XBox. We have three lemur species in the game already, so why not include their arch-nemesis? The Fossa would also be the pack's flagship animal.
  • The brown and gold, two-headed creature was a Matschie's Tree Kangaroo (the second head was a joey in the mother's pouch)! Planet Zoo needs more marsupials ("moresupials?"), and I love tree kangaroos! I could see this one as a walkabout animal, and it might be able to get an enrichment bonus with the Koala or Cassowary.
  • The clueless sailor wasn't bit by the creature in the shipwreck, he was pinched! By a Coconut Crab, no less! The coco crab would be the pack's exhibit animal, and while some people have suggested that they should be a habitat species due to their size, most of the Coconut Crabs that I've seen in captivity (well, just the one I saw at Sea Life when Claws was a thing) don't get that big. I was considering the Tree Lobster that was found in the game's files, but the Coconut Crab is more fun, IMO.
  • The "demon" the sailor encountered was actually a Tasmanian Devil! I did not realize that these were the new "most wanted" animal for Planet Zoo, but glad to know people want them as badly as I do! Also, if the Fossa is the "cat" for this pack, then the T-Devil is the "dog".
  • The ground-poking fuzzball was a North Island Brown Kiwi, and if worms were treasure, then he was definitely looking for treasure! I know this isn't the kind of bird people want for Planet Zoo, but they're unique enough that I don't think people will mind their inclusion. Also, potential walkabout species? Anyone?
  • The tiny tuxedo men with the eyebrows were Southern Rockhopper Penguins from the Falkland Islands! In the initial draft of this pack, I had the Little Blue Penguin, but I replaced it with the Kiwi for a more unique-looking bird. But then I was having trouble with the last animal in the pack, which was going to be either the Japanese Serow (Japan is an island, too) or the Lowland Anoa, but I wanted to stray away from Asia for this pack as a challenge. I know we already have two penguin species in PZ already, but why not add a third? Especially one with some past Zoo Tycoon street cred! It's a walkabout species like the other two PZ penguins, and gets an interspecies enrichment bonus with the King Penguin!
  • The "sea monsters" were Marine Iguanas, specifically their "Christmas" variant. I know Marine Iguanas aren't able to be legally exported to zoos, but at least they can survive in captivity! The Marine Iguana can use the underwater plant feeder, get an enrichment bonus with the Galapagos Giant Tortoise, maybe be a walkabout species, and make that one guy on the Planet Zoo subreddit who wants habitat iguanas very, very happy! I had the Cuban Crocodile in the initial draft of this pack, but I settled on the iguana instead after the reveal of the Spectacled Caiman.
  • Last but not least, the "mermaid" the sailor found on the beach was actually a Hawaiian Monk Seal! This is the only Island Excursions species in the pack itself, and was actually the animal that inspired this pack in the first place! Maybe this could be the pack's flagship instead of the Fossa? Maybe. And for the last time, I know they aren't common in captivity, but this is a video game and it really shouldn't matter!
And that'll be all for this pack! I probably won't make another one of these until the next DLC releases. See ya!
