Are These in Captivity?

Sorry for asking but they are many animals I wonder are in zoos.

are Vaquita in captivity?

I believe they might still be in some places, but they were kept in many zoos in the past, such as San Diego. I'm not really the best person to say this, since I am not much of a nut of zoo history, as I am animal knowledge in general.

They are in nature reserves if that helps! :)
Not sure about the motmots though, again. Not really the number 1 person to ask.

Yes, entirely ex-situ I believe. I've seen pictures of them in the Zoochat gallery so probably on public display.

To be honest I struggle to think of another bird species which is more suited for ex-situ than this kingfisher given the enormity of the threats to it in the wild.

@MizzB Have you checked the Zoochat gallery ?

You can just type in the name of a species into the search bar and it will come up with pictures of the animal at different zoos and it saves people time answering the question on this thread.

To answer your question though, yes, both are kept in captivity in many zoos around the world although to a far lesser extent than many other bird South American species such as macaws, trumpeters or sun bitterns.

Would be strange if there wasnt in either zoos or rescue centres in Guatemala or one of the other Central American nations.

These birds have quite a large range from Mexico down to Nicaragua.
