Are These in Captivity?

Are any of these in captivity?

- Skuas?
- Vangas?
- Swallows?
- Mako Sharks?
- Swordfish/Marlin?
- Gannets?
- Albatross? (anyone other than the Laysan at Monterey Bay Aquarium)

End of the 1980s Wuppertal Zoo ( Germany ) made serious attemps to breed swallows in captivity and succesfully bred large numbers of Barn swallows ( even in the second generation ) and House martins.
During the same period Perth Zoo worked with the Welcome swallow and bred it also in some numbers.
I myself took care for both Barn swallow and House martin at Weltvogelpark Walsrode. In these cases it were rescued birds which were fallen out of the nest or from destroyed nests.

An aquarium in Japan had an Atlantic Footballfish at some point, can't recall which aquarium nor how long it lasted.

I'm pretty sure the anole and the gecko are around, Hutia is probably kept in facilities in Hispaniola. Not to sure about the others.

Ashy Geckos are around in the private trade, but not many since they're kind of dull.
Warren's galliwasp is kept by a few zoos.
Hispañolan Amazon is kept too I think.

There are some Hispañolan hutias and solenodons currently on display at Zoodom (the national zoo) in Santo Domingo the Dominican Republic but as far as I know this is the only zoo with either species in the world. The Zoochatter @Giant Eland visited the zoo and took some excellent photos of these species.

Also in Zoodom there was apparently an enclosure next to these which was being built for a bat species which I seem to remember was the Hispañolan greater funnel eared bat (and possibly the Cuban species too in the future). However, I really don't know if they have gone ahead and housed this species yet. Here is a picture of the enclosure that @Giant Eland took: future Hispaniolan bats exhibit - ZooChat

Zoodom also houses other Hispañolan endemic birds, reptiles such as Ridgway's hawk, Ashy faced owl, Hispañolan parakeet, palm crow, palm chat, the Ricord's iguana (only zoo in world to have this species). Endemic amphibians kept include the Hispaniolan laughing tree frog, Los Bracitos tree frog and several Eleuth frogs like: Abbot's robber frog, Eleutherodactylus weinlan, Eleutherodactylus flavescens, Eleutherodactylus inoptatus.

The Haitian galliwasp is kept at Jersey Zoo in the UK where it was the first zoo to breed the species in captivity. Here is a picture of a young one at the zoo by @JerseyLotte.

Other Hispañolan endemic fauna like the rhinoceros iguana, Hispañolan boa, Hispañolan amazon parrot and the Hispañolan slider are fairly common in zoos in the USA, Europe and Australia. Photo credits to @jerseygorilla,@vogelcommando ,@JigerofLemuria

Any Southern Calamari Squid (Sepioteuthis australis) in captivity? I know most squids do poorly, but the Southern Calamari is in the same genus as the Bigfin Reef Squid (which seems to do fairly well), so it could possibly work? They would of course need more space than Bigfin Reefs due to their larger size.

Given the range of the species is entirely centered on two countries with tight export laws, probably not. Maybe some in Australian or New Zealand aquariums?

Just saw a wildlife special about bay cats, which are incredibly rare, only found in Borneo, and about which scientists know very, very little. Are any in captivity, anywhere in the world? I’d imagine not, but I’ve been surprised before.

I think one zoo in Indonesia has (had?) them.

It seems they’re the least-studied of all the cats. Like, they absolutely refuse to be found in the wild. Hopefully we can figure out how to locate them better, in order to best learn about them and protect them.
