Sorry, but is this really the determining factor? There may be some crappy exhibits with 6-8 Penguins that would win by this criteria!

No, it's just we were discussing the relative space each penguin had, and then it got more complicated and I thought this was the fairest way to evaluate the relative sizes of the exhibits. Of course it is way off course and almost entirely a wild tangent, but debate takes you places you have never been before after all...

Pretty sure Marwell would not fare well if this is the criteria list though...

I would agree it is a two horse race and I am still undecided. I was not aware of the potential foot issues at Edinburgh. Will have to read more about that.

I think Marwell meets all of that criteria except Size and Depth. For the nine main penguin enclosures, this is how much of that criteria they meet:

Marwell:6/8
Whipsnade Rockhopper:6/8
Whipsnade African:3/8
London:8/8
Bristol:5/8
Edinburgh:5/8
Chester:5/8
Living Coasts:7/8
Flamingo Land:3/8

I'm entirely aware of where they live, and of their range as a whole; my point remains that the southernmost point of their range is further from the Antarctic Circle than London is from the Arctic Circle :p and to be honest, the fact you cite Peru as if it proves your point is baffling given the fact said country is located entirely within the tropics!
Peru being in the tropics is excactly why foliage, misty springs and waterfalls help!

Also,DOES MARWELL HAVE THE UK’S BEST BREEDING RECORD?They certainly meet that factor then!

I'm probably going to regret asking this but: what is it that you are using to establish if a criteria has been 'met' ?

Also - are we not trying to establish which is the best in each criteria rather than just meeting a criteria. That's difference between adequate / good / great surely?

Like I said, repeated shifting of the goalposts :P I've been patient with you, but seriously.......

Then TeaLovingDave should not say it means that it is not Antarctic

*facepalm*

If it were not for the current lockdown I could get a metro to the Northumberland coastline and be on a rocky, often cold coast within 25 minutes..... it doesn't mean I live in Antarctic conditions :P

It isn’t Antarctic...the majority of penguin species don’t even live in Antarctica. Peru could not be a further South American country from the Antarctic if it tried.
The south of Chile and Argentina on the other hand....

Agreed. I’d be keen to know what criteria you’re using to vote as well. Like Zia my immediate thought was to vote for Edinburgh, though I must say London’s is also impressive.
I too have never visited Peak/Blackbrook so wouldn’t know...must check the gallery.

Good point, but by meeting criteria I mean that it has something impressive and standout in a particular factor.Which zoo has the best in a particular criteria is which zoo is, well, better in that factor. In that measurement I think it may look like this, though it is a very debatable subject:
Viewing:London
Depth:Edinburgh
Size:Edinburgh
Immersion:Whipsnade Rockhopper
Foliage:Marwell
Experience:Edinburgh
Breeding:Marwell
Terrain:London

I think Edinburgh win on breeding, purely based on the fact that they have chicks every year and their numbers are over 100!

Marwell on the other hand, haven’t even scraped 20 penguins in their flock...

I'm fairly sure that was very-telegraphed sarcasm on ZG's part :p

Most zoos have chicks every year, but Edinburgh must be victorious if their numbers are near 100.Impressive!I do believe which Marwell have not looked into a larger flock because their exhibit just is not big enough to House anything bigger,
