Rotterdam Zoo Blijdorp News 2016

After a long break Blijdorp will start again with Geladas ! A group of 1 male and 3 females with their young has already been send to Rotterdam from Rheine but it will prop. not untll 2017 before the animals will be placed on public display.

It is actually a group of 1.3 + 0.0.3 youngsters. Meaning all females have babies at the moment (all ex Zoo Rheine).
 
Geladas- Does anyone know when their last group died out? I remember them on a mountain mixed with Barbary sheep on a visit in late 1960's.
 
I've seen them till at least the end of the 1980-ties but I should be able to find out when they exactly went out of Geladas.
 
Fantastic news :) especially given the fact this species went offshow at Walsrode prior to my visit!
 
At an age of 27 year and with that Europese oldest Reticulated giraffe Tipsy has been put down a few days ago. She had several health problems :(.

How many species of animals (mammals, birds, reptiles, invertebrates, amphibians and fish) actually breed Rotterdam zoo?

For the first time in 9 years a Hyacinthine macaw has been hatched at Rotterdam Zoo. The young is already looking out of the nestbox :).
