Bronx Zoo Bronx Zoo 2012

Yes, that's also what I'd like to know. Are there any master plan documents like that of Omaha's Zoo, what with the conceptual designs and layouts?

I think that these species were in there, I'm almost certain there were more species:
Emperor Tamarin
Bolivian Gray Titi Monkey
Cotton-Top Tamarin
Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine
Golden-Lion Tamarin
Common Squirrel Monkey
White-Faced Saki Monkey
Red-Handed Tamarin
White-Throated Capuchin
I'm sure there are more, just can't remember them
Some of the monkeys are being relocated to different parts of the zoo, and others are going to places like Central Park and Prospect Park Zoo.

Oh yes, Night Monkeys too.

Thank you for the link, snowleopard.

However, I think this article was much deeper than just the closing of the Monkey House. It made me think...

Especially that last sentence.

"One by one, I passed them in silence, their now pre-empted shows giving glimpses of the future that we and our zoos are already entering into: where the captives can’t be envoys of a world that no longer exists."

On my visit yesterday, I noticed that they appear to be doing construction on the old Asian elephant exhibit at the Zoo Center. They were chopping trees down at the particular moment I was there. Maybe they're making it into an enclosure more suitable for their pair of white rhinoceroses? I'll have a few pictures up in a few days or so.

This horrible incident happened on zoo grounds, where a SUV fell six stories from a highway overpass and killed all 7 passengers, including 3 children. My deepest sympathies to the victims' family.:(
Bronx Zoo SUV Crash Kills 3 Generations of a Family | Fox News Latino

Just to be clear for those who are not familiar with the zoo: the accident occurred on a public highway that passes above a behind-the-scenes, little used area of the zoo located on the other side of Wild Asia. This area is not only "not open to the public" but so out of the way that the public couldn't even get there. The car apparently went off of the overpass after the speeding driver damaged a tire and lost control, and came down in this area. My sympathies are with the family and friends of those killed, but also with the zoo personnel who had to confront this grizzly scene. I am sure that they, too, are affected

It seems that the Common Squirrel Monkeys from the closed Monkey House have a new home. They are now in the Children's Zoo in their own mini-bamboo forest next to the marsh.
A Black-Necked Swan hatched at the zoo on April 17, 2012.

Personally, I feel sorry not only for family, friends, zoo personnel, and police, but for anyone in the Bronx that drives around this area. They are probably nervous and thinking, "What if this happens to us?". I myself read an article about the funeral, and found my eyes filling up with water as even ushers and other people who didn't know the victims relied on each other support. I pray that the family of the victims find God and hope in this horrible moment of their lives.

A Coquerel's Sifaka and Collared Lemur baby have recently been born, and are now on exhibit in Madagascar!
In addition, a video featuring the Pygmy Marmosets and an Ipad came out with a strong message.

Just curious, where did you hear that Bronx might get Takin? I know the National Zoo in D.C. hopes to get them but it won't be for a few more years and Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island just got Takin.

The Peoria Zoo in Illinois got a new takin exhibit a 10 months ago.

@PhantomGaur-

Regarding the white rhinos, the zoo center exhibit is only temporary.

Have the takin arrived yet?

No one knew anything about any takins, so I presume it was just a rumor. I was just curious if anyone had heard anything about this recently.

Beardsley, I was at the DC zoo in April and met with one of the assistant curators. I asked him about the takin since they are one of my favorites. He said that they did hope to get them but he said it probably wouldn't be for a couple of years since they have other projects planned first.

Anaheim, I wish Bronx would get them but hopefully they don't just throw them out on the Asia Monorail ride where you would be lucky to see them.

Unfortunately, they are more than likely to be on the Monorail Ride if they do attain them. Hopefully, they might be placed in Himalayan Highalands or Zoo Center if we ever do get them.

Does anyone know what happened to the lions cubs from the previous yrs also is one of the female gorillas in the first troop on exhibit pregnant?
