Bronx Zoo Bronx Zoo 2012

I know 3 litters of 3 tigers each. Thats 9 tigers in less than 2 years. Also the parents are 13 and 15 which is old for tigers that lifespan is around 20 years.

Along with tiger cubs and ibis chicks, there are goat kids, nyala fawns, and Madagascar Hognose Snake hatchlings on exhibit.

I'm going to presume that the Amur Tiger cubs from 2010 have moved to another zoo? Anyone know where? I know that 2 Malayan Tiger brothers went to Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
Also, to anyone who has visited in winter, do the ostriches share the indoor giraffe exhibit?
This thread talks about a recent attack.:(

As far as I know, the ostriches do not share the indoor exhibit with the giraffes.

Some Rock Hyraxes might have been born recently in Baboon Reserve. I'll probably be at the Bronx sometime in November.

After my Sunday visit, it appears that not much has changed.

- The lesser kudu (I believe there were two?) that lived on the African Plains must have been shipped elsewhere. They were no where to be found, and their information signs were no longer up.

- Grey crowned-cranes (I believe there are also two) now reside in the exhibit the kudu once occupied along with Thomson's Gazelles. The cranes are a nice addition. Maybe the Zoo traded the cranes for the kudu? And for anyone who may be wondering, yes, the gazelles are still there.

- The maleo are doing well in their World of Birds exhibit. One maleo was digging quite a bit, maybe preparing a nest?! Just speculating, besides, I'm no bird expert. It could've just been digging. :p Also, their new, more elaborate signage is complete, and it proudly boasts that the maleos are the only maleos that can be seen outside of their native Indonesia.

- Is it possible that one or two giraffes could have been born recently? I'm doubting it, despite seeing two young giraffes out on the African Plains. I'm sure the Zoo would've mentioned it by now.

There was a giraffe born about a year ago, and a giraffe born in February. Perhaps those are the youngsters you saw?

Bronx opened again today, and I decided to make my annual visit. All indoor exhibits are open, but a fair amount of outdoor animals aren't on exhibit. There is still some debris around the zoo, but most of it is cleaned up.
Some animal/exhibit updates;
Some animals have switched exhibits in the Mouse House, like they normally do. However, Rock Cavies and Golden-Headed-Lion Tamarins are now in the Mouse House. There might also be a new skunk.
The giraffes are on exhibit indoors for the winter, and their outdoor exhibit just has Ostriches now. However, it seems 2 more female Ostriches have joined the flock. It seems like some Dwarf Mongooses might have been born recently.
Many of the African Plains animals weren't on exhibit today (Nyalas, gazelles, cranes, lions)
Many of the animals in Congo are indoors, although the Red River Hogs were let out later during the day. The gorillas are on exhibit in their indoor quarters.
Didn't see the Maleos. :(
Saw the Western Capercaillie though.
Pere David's Deer are off-exhibit due to a large tree that fell in their yard. Trumpeter Swans were in the pond though.
Tiger cubs weren't on exhibit when I visited Tiger Mountain.
White Rhinos are on exhibit indoors.
The 2 grown-up offspring of the Coquerel's Sifakas might have been sent to another zoo. I didn't see them there today, and I didn't see the summer baby either.
Fossas weren't on exhibit for some reason.
Two Southern Bald Ibises are on exhibit in the Aquatic Bird House.
There are juvenile Scarlet Ibises, an American White Pelican, and two Brown Pelicans in the Scarlet Ibis/Pied Avocet aviary.
Soap was smeared on the glass for an exhibit with Giant Wood Rails, Sunbitterns, Cotton Pygmy Geese, and Red-Billed Leiothrix.
There is are 2 pheasants (Blue-Eared? Didn't get a good look at it, will have to look at photo of it) in the Lesser Adjutant Stork aviary.
Snowy Owls are back in Birds of Prey aviaries.
False Gharials were off-exhibit.
New Geladas might have been added, there seemed more than usual.
There seemed to be less of the Small-Clawed Otters and Ebony Langurs in JungleWord.
Wild Asia Monorail, Children's Zoo, and Butterfly Garden are closed for the season and due to the storm.
Check for photos later!:)

These have been on exhibit for quite a while, saw them in the ABH as early as February 2012. Should've mentioned it. :o

Why didn't you invite me? You could've gotten in for free. :D

I saw them in November 2011. They've been there for quite a while.

The Bronx Zoo will be sending Clairborne, a two year old Malayan Tiger, to the Virginia Zoo. The San Diego Zoo will be sending a male named Christopher to set up a breeding program there.

I might go to the bronx zoo december 7th-december 9th. what will be open and what will be closed? thks matt

Most of the stuff outside might be closed like the Asian Monorail, most of what's on Congo Gorilla Forest (the gorillas will be on exhibit but not outside), I don't think much of anything on the African exhibit will be out. Obviously, the Polar and Grizzly Bears and the animals of Himalayan Highlands will be out. So will Tiger Mountain. All the indoor exhibits should be open.

All indoor exhibits will be open.
What Is Almost Certain To Be Open:
Sea Lions
Himalayan Highlands (Snow Leopards, Red Pandas, Trapogans, Cranes)
Big Bears (Brown and Polar Bears)
Tiger Mountain (Amur Tigers and Pere David's Deer)
Baboon Reserve (I'm pretty confident it will be open.)

What Might Be Open:
African Plains (Giraffes will be on exhibit indoors, and some other animals might be on exhibit.)
Congo Gorilla Forest (All indoor areas will be open, gorillas will be on exhibit indoors, maybe some other animals will be let out.)

What Won't Be Open:
Wild Asia Monorail
Children's Zoo
