Causes of giraffe deaths announced:

0.1 Penelope (2013-2023)
0.1 Zuri (2023-2023)

Cameron Park Zoo releases cause of July deaths for mother, daughter giraffes

Based on the pathology report for Penelope, it appears the primary issue was muscle trauma in the form of exertional rhabdomyolysis, also known as capture myopathy.

The findings on Zuri indicate there was an infection of the gastrointestinal tract, which spread to her bloodstream, causing sepsis. Even with aggressive medical treatment, this infection reached the lungs, causing pneumonia and shock. Stress was a possible contributing factor and may have been linked to the loss of her mother and the transition to being bottle-fed.

Penguin fundraiser at $300,000 and counting as Cameron Park Zoo officials try to keep up with rising construction costs

The zoo just put out bids for construction of their African penguin exhibit. Apparently the complex will include a black-footed cat exhibit as well.

The Zoo is asking additional funds to support their upcoming expansion project (penguins, visitor plaza, black-footed cat) due to inflation.

Waco: Zoo expansion project $10 million short

Groundbreaking event this week:

The new additions to the zoo include an Education Center, Vet Hospital and the Penguin Shores Exhibit.

The Penguin Shores Exhibit will allow zookeepers to facilitate breeding for the endangered South African black-footed penguins.

No mention of the Black-Footed Cat habitat that was supposed to accompany the penguin habitat, I guess those plans were dropped.

The Black-footed cat habitat is mentioned here (August 2022): Waco: Zoo expansion project $10 million short

The zoo have found themselves $10 million short for these projects due to increased construction costs and other factors. Taking out the Black-footed cat and family restrooms would mean they’re around $7.8 million short.
I found this construction update from November. The exhibit is set to open this summer. There was some question if proposed black-footed cats had been dropped from the plans, but this states they are still included in the expansion.
