I believe from being told by a member of staff the small porta-cabs are staying put for the winter times and people will enter the zoo like they have done all the last winter, with no hitches.

The 1952 gates do open and close.

The current system is designed for when the zoo is busy, and expecting upwards of 5000 plus visitors, which it will do from the likes of March to October.

I suppose on some rainy days the staff, like the keepers and the visitors will have to be responsible enough to wear waterproofs and an extra jumper, not that i've heard any moaning about it anyway.

Well every time I go, they moan like hell about the cold and wet!

I know they will be responsible enough to wear whatever, but how easy it would have been to have it undercover!

Exactly why I left Himalaya out of it :p - I used the example of the Sri Lankan footpath around the elephants as an example, as I think that was the zoo's own money and I personally think it was a much bigger waste of money than Himalaya [which, while it has its faults, I do like quite a lot] :)

My apologies JR - I got muddled, I haven't seen the completed Sri Lankan footpath (or at least it didn't look as if it was completed :)). The path from Himalaya to the enclosures was pretty muddy when I was there ;)

never mind the staff I got soaked queuing to get in last Sunday when only 1 terminal was open and a massive line of people waiting to get in

I know it's not nice getting wet whilst queuing but surely if your going to the zoo anyway and it's raining your going to get wet as they havent yet covered the whole zoo, the staff need more cover, but if there going to keep the portacabins then guess it probably isn't needed to much

I dont mind the wet one bit!

Its the staff I was talking about.
If they go to the trouble of redesigning something, that needed very expensive weatherproof monitors and keyboards, with a little thought they could have done a better job.

As for using the cabins in winter.....................Just stick em at the new terminals then!

[if the planners had to stand in the cold all day................]

Why on earth would they keep the portacabins? As far as I know the terminals are just used for tickets which are purchased outside the shop..

I care - and I guess the other teachers and ex-teachers on the board care too. It's not that we particularly want to care, but you can't change the habits of a lifetime :o

Looks like we are going to have a Jubilee monorail train at the zoo now aswell, based on the zoo's Facebook page
