Back in June 2012, there was only one doe: the buck had been killed by dogs that got into the zoo. A group of assorted ZooChatters had one of our 'walk & talk sessions' with Tim Rowlands (long-serving Curator of Mammals) on the 23rd. He had just explained what had happened and turned to look on the other side of the Bats Bridge, when a newborn fawn appeared. He was on his walkie-talkie immediately.I remember not so long ago when Chester had three seperate groups in the zoo- about nine deer in total. Now much reduced to a single pair(?) + offspring.
