Do we know why he’s being hand-reared? First time mum, or not enough milk? Or are they planning on him being an ambassador animal that is more familiar with people?
I don't know the official answer, but she did have two babies last year and it ended up the father took better care of them than her when he was introduced to them. So they may have though it be better to hand rear.
On the zoo's website for "Zoo Babies" it says to see him "later this year in the Cheetah Encounter", so unfortunately it seems it was just to be an ambassador animal
Is there any date for when the new Black bear exhibit opens? My sister was at Cincinnati yesterday and she was wondering.

The mother was having some sort of trouble and so staff made the decision to intervene and hand raise the kit. Because of this the zoo made the choice to raise him as an ambassador animal but the zoo phased out hand raising animals who's mothers still showed maternal care with the end of the nursery a couple years ago.
The two North America habitats are currently planned for 2025 last I heard with all the priority being put on Elephant Trek and bird house/Jungle Trails renovations at the moment.

On May 17th, it was announced that the zoo acquired a (0.1) ringtail to the Lehigh Valley Zoo in Pennsylvania in late April. It was also announced that the zoo transferred a (0.1) ringtail to the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Now that is something because this is what this article says:
The zoo says it is so rare for a Southern tamandua to be expecting twins that they think Isla’s case “could be the first recorded occurrence in human care.”

No updates on the new North America section but the new primate enclosure in Jungle Trails will be opening later this summer. The renovations in World of Insect and the Bird House are both finished and both have reopened.
Mokonzi the baby okapi is now on-display with his mother in the veldt and Zuko the new red panda has been introduced to Lenore per an SSP breeding recommendation.
In a partnership with the Sedgwick County Zoo and National Aviary, the Cincinnati Zoo will be releasing multiple Guam Kingfisher on Palmyra Atoll. The first time this species will be in the wild in over thirty years. So far this year the zoo has had 10 eggs laid, and three chicks hatch with one more on the way. On June 6th, the zoo announced that their entire bonobo troop contracted human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and will be off-exhibit until the symptoms pass. Though the exact cause is not known, reports of food being thrown into the bonobo exhibit were made the week prior.

Another little gem of a project appearing in the South Pacific for this erstwhile EXTINCT IN THE WILD species.
I do hope in tandem that predator control for the invasive snakes - the real biodiversity threat to local wildlife - is put under control or eradicated here and hopefully soon on other islands within the Guam Archipelago.
Brown Tree Snake control has been underway on Guam for a while now. They're still present, of course, but their numbers are way down.
Relating to this project though, I am somewhat concerned that the kingfishers may cause the extinction of Palmyra's endemic gecko species.
That's something I've been mildly worried about too. I have to assume that the possibility of the geckos' extinction is a factor that would have been assessed before any reintroductions, but time and time again experts have been ignorant of smaller characters in different ecosystems.
Horrible news. I am wishing the best for the entire team at Cincinnati. Losing more bonobos would be horrible for the team, especially after losing Amali not long ago.
I do think it would be worthwile and important to set up captive assurance colonies for Palmyra's endangered lizard fauna.

Another construction update (Something the zoo seems to be full of at the moment which is wonderful) The Red Panda enclosure is currently undergoing renovations and the pandas are off-display for the time being. Sabu's transfer also seems to have been pushed back to either later this month or July but he will be returning to Cincinnati soon. The young bulls, Kabir and Sanjay, have undergone plasma treatment to build up their immune systems to the virus allowing for them to interact with Sabu more safely.
