Are we still in the dark on the reindeer/peccary area? It seems that the two areas are both being done together and presumably are going to be one enclosure. Thick chain link is going up, thicker than in the primate enclosures, so I’m thinking carnivore?

I’ve attached a photo of the fencing, it also goes under the ground so I guess something that might dig, that’s probably most things though!

There’s also a company there called Aquascapes waterfalls landscaping. I took a photo of their trailer but I don’t think you can tell anything from it. I’m guessing something that will use a water feature.

Does that rule out the wild dogs and cheetah mentioned earlier in the thread?
A water feature could just be a non-used feature? Did you see if any work on an indoor accommodation, that could be a clue?

Not much going on there but I think it’s being demolished. I didn’t take a pic directly but in the background of one you can see they’re pulling the doors off and some stuff outside that was presumably inside. It doesn’t look very nice though so they could just be doing a big refurb.

Edit - adding to this post to not double post but the flamingos is a walk through now. It’s been a good 6 months since I was last here so I don’t know if it’s new but I thought I’d mention in case.

IMO, given the scale of that high fencing... I'm not sure it would suit zebras, but I could see it working for a cheetah enclosure if that's what they're working on bringing to the zoo. Of course, if it was going to be a Clouded leopard exhibit then they'd need to install some sort of netting over the top.

Still, it's looking good so far. And I'll be amazed to see whatever species moves into that space.

I think that area could be too exposed for Cheetah, unless they plant some extra vegetation in there

It’s looking very nice, as good as the previous setup was this is definitely an improvement. It seems Dudley is employing a Chester-like ‘always building’ strategy these last few years, which is always delightful to keep up with and so good to see improvements being made all the time.
Personally, having the top management of CEO,Zoo manager and Curator, all working their way up from junior keeper to the top shows what love they have for the zoo. Infact ,if you were to cut them open, they would be like a stick of rock, with the words Dudley zoo written the way through them

Nice visit at Dudley today. There was an oldtimer car happening in the castle yard, sun was out, it's the busiest I've seen it in the past 2 years.
Which also brings me to say, the most disrespectful people I've ever seen at a zoo ... *sigh*.
Constantly trying to feed animals, and the comments they had throughout the day.

Not sure how many Arctic Fox pups we counted, but lots were dotted around the enclosure just chilling.
Both Tigers chilling on the platforms.
Many animals had gotten some ice lollies.
Both Snow Leopards were snuggling up in a corner.
At the Lemur walkthrough we couldn't see any at all, so the keeper got them all out by rattling some food and throwing some food, and they all appeared.
Boyfriend saw the newest Sloth edition, just as he was looking it popped it's head up, I couldn't see anything at all, lol.

For collectors, there's a new coin machine in the gift shop (also works with card, which I off course didn't notice when I got one), and the coin comes in a plastic protection case.
3£ for 1 or 10£ for all 4.
Designs are Flamingo's, Dudley castle, Red Panda and Tiger, and all color of the coins differ too from gold, silver, red-ish gold.

The exhibit (and the whole zoo actually) is on a steep hill. You could certainly see for miles from there.
I do know that Dudley Zoo is built on a hill.
The picture must be quite misleading then, as it appears to be surrounded by mature trees which clearly stop the 'view for miles', with the house blocking one end and woodland at the back.

The house you can see in the image is in the centre of the area currently being refurbished. Downhill is across the path and away.

I've just come across the map from my latest visit. It shows the old reindeer and peccary exhibits as still separate, both labelled 'New habitat coming soon'.
