Dudley Zoological Gardens Dudley Zoo news 2025

The zoo has joined a rescue mission to try and ensure the survival of the critically endangered Glutinous Snail. It became extinct in England 30 years ago and can only be found in a lake in Wales. The zoo has joined forces with Ian Hughs a conservationist and former keeper of the zoo. After only a few weeks the 1-5cm snails have started to breed and they now have babies.

We went on Sunday and wasn't busy at all really, despite the beautiful weather.
We didn't stay that long, because I don't care for such beautiful weather much :D

We kind of just went to see if we could spot the baby Wolverines, and we did! They are just adorable little floof balls!
Got lucky, the rest of the day they weren't visible anymore.

The Painted Dogs, when coming from where the Wallaby walkthrough used to be, it was closed off.
Don't know if the other side was too, I really didn't want to walk all the way around to find that out.

The Arctic Fox kitsthat were born to Grace and Spruce about 6 weeks ago have started to explore their enclosure. The keepers have so far counted five kits.

Nice news...they have turned into a very positive pairing with the second successful litter in the last couple of years. Interesting to see them using the underground burrrow in the pipes to have the litter in.

Two female painted dogs, named Alice and Isabel, have arrived from Zoo Magdeburg, Germany.

They are mother and daughter and are aged 8 and 2 years old. They have already been introduced to the two males who arrived earlier in the year.

This is the first time in Dudley Zoo's history that they've held a potential breeding pack of painted dogs.

Let's hope they can have a smooth introduction to each other.

The exhibit is a huge improvement of what was before a painted dog exclosure. It seems Dudley is catching up and close on the 2 males ... they received 2 suitable females for a new breeding pack. Hope they settle in soon...!

A female Asiatic lion named Kirana will be arriving from Schwerin Zoo, Germany, next week.

I think this may be tomorrow. There were some people today measuring up the entrance and they declared they’d have to remove the gates by the end of the day or something wouldn’t fit. Transport crate?

The wild dogs are fenced off at the moment but I saw three all relaxing together, you wouldn’t think that they were newly introduced animals.

Good sleuthing.;) As posted above....

It was quite the pleasure seeing them today on my very first visit to Dudley, they were having quite the time playing in the late afternoon with some branches in the enclosure.

Can we expect a review of your visit? Always interesting to read the thoughts and experiences of a first time visitor.
