Zoo updates:
- There are Christmas trees in front of the red panda inside area, that’s why the fence was removed. Anyway, the zoo should have put the trees somewhere else and this was a bad choice.
-Birds of Paradise is being renovated, the entire exhibit is now empty-no trees, branches, etc. I heard that they are going to make the pond bigger and have more animals than just birds. Nothing else I heard.
-The zoo got two new rhea. They are in the third and largest yard. The entire old canine section is gone and got transformed into a new South American section. The peccary has access to two yards currently but they are eventually planned to share space.
-I also heard that the zoo may eventually take down the whole pond area and make that a whole new exhibit.
-The terrarium in trail of the Jaguar next to the white-throated woodrat has been filled with another white-throated woodrat. It formerly housed a toad, but I am not sure what happened to it.
-The wildlife lodge has once again been closed due to Covid. The narrow paths make it harder to social distance and I also assume this is in light of the governors new rules. The earliest it could open should be Jan.4.
-Dakota, the mother of the bison herd passed away Dec.4 at 23. The remaining two bison seem to be coping well, the last time they were normally relaxing in their yard and the time before that they were still moving and eating. They were never calling or showing signs of distress.
