Guess the species? #1

I think Hix might have the llama right, the upper jaw looks too short for dromedary which I had been worried about, but it looks good for llama.

And yeah I don't think blackbuck anymore (I just googled some pictures and the ear isn't pointed enough in nanoboy's photo), so its some African thing, maybe Hix's impala -- but has nanoboy seen an impala to photograph? -- or AnaheimZoo's waterbuck.

I think the other three have to be correct (polar bear, meerkat, giraffe)

Ok boys and girls, here are the results so far:

1. It is NOT a polar bear
2. I will put you out of your misery - it is a meerkat that was sleeping on the job. It's a really funny photo
3. Don't doubt yourselves folks - it is a dromedary with an extra-droopy lip
4. Giraffe - everyone seemed to guess that
5. I have never seen an impala (as far as I recall), and it is not a blackbuck

So, whoever gets #1 and #5 in one guess wins.

Number one looks white, but I'm going to go for African lion.

And is number five not a waterbuck then? You only said it isn't an impala or blackbuck...

Please specifically state your guesses. :)

Posters have mused on what they could be, but have not specifically stated their choices.

African lion is your guess for #1, and it is incorrect. ;)
But I am not sure what your new guess for #5 is.

Oh, Hevden got the first one correct. I was so busy making fun of his cervid guess, that I didn't realise he was correct. Apologies. :D

#1 = giant panda (Ocean Park, Hong Kong)

I thought giant panda was a bit too obvious (and also I forgot for the moment that you'd been to Hong Kong recently!).

So my answers are now:

1) Giant Panda ;)
2) Meerkat
3) Dromedary
4) Giraffe
5) Sure, I'll go with AnaheimZoo's waterbuck suggestion (and if I get all this right then I'll give my turn to AnaheimZoo)

You kids remind me of students in class: you ask a question, hope for a straight answer but they pussyfoot, give you about 4 possible answers and hope that they will get the marks if one is correct. ;)

Anyway, waterbuck is correct!

I'll let you folks decide who goes next.

AnaheimZoo can take a turn I think because he got the waterbuck first, or maybe Hevden (getting the giant panda) and AnaheimZoo can both post a photo.

HOO HOO HOO HOO HOO HOO HOO! WATERBUCK! WATERBUCK! YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAUGHHH! :D

Ok, a photo should be up in a few hours... Just got back from the Bronx Zoo, and I've got quite a doosey (or doozey... doozie?) I don't think any of you will get it, but if it turns out to be really easy, then I'm sorry. Thanks for offering up your turn, Chlidonias.

Well, I guess when I said a few hours, I must've thought I wouldn't know how to crop a picture... :o

So, here it is. Have a crack at this one. Good luuuuuuck. ;)

1) sun bittern
2) spectacled bear
3) white-crested hornbill
4) bongo

@ nanoboy, EHH! EHH! EHH! EHH! 0/4... :( the woodpecker's not even close.
@ Chlidonias, 1/4 ;) sun bittern's not close either.

oh, number one is a male blue peafowl!
2) spectacled bear I will stick with
3) its obviously a hornbill with eyelashes like that, and I can't think of what other species than white-crested, so I'll just leave that one for someone else then
4) how about female nyala

Armed with google, my wife has put forward the following:

1. Freckled duck
2. Spectacled bear
3. White CROWNED hornbill (looks like crowned and crested are the same thing though)
4. Bongo

And no, this isn't me trying to get another chance it really was my wife's guess. :D
