Black Guillemot is pretty exciting. I don't think there any any Pigeon Guillemots on this side of the Atlantic since the Living Coasts group died out.No Black guillemot indeed, I got my English names mixed up again...

According to Zootierliste, the last Black guillemot at the zoo and by extension the last one in Europe, died in July.
Puffins probably do not do well in non-acclimatised exhibits in temperate regions.
This is something I had been hinting at.Which is strange considering this species is native to temperate regions - they are very common around herethat said, the population of Tufted Puffin at Living Coasts has lasted a pretty long time and they are at a rather warmer latitude than Hamburg!
I think there is a decent chance the issue in this case is the orientation and cladding of the exhibit, as I seem to recall it is something of a suntrap and retains heat very efficiently.
Interestingly, there is a private individual in Niedersachsen which keeps and breeds Puffins.
