Compared to most people here my list is quite short, but for me this year has been a record year with 5 zoos:

Helsinki zoo (Finland)
Riga zoo (Latvia)
Copenhagen zoo (Denmark)
Terra Natura Murcia (Spain)
Madrid zoo (Spain)

My new facilities for 2022 are:

1. Aquarium of the Bay – San Francisco, California
2. Monterey Bay Aquarium – Monterey, California
3. Living Desert – Palm Desert, California
4. Aquarium of the Pacific – Long Beach, California
5. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium – San Pedro, California
6. Los Angeles Zoo – Los Angeles, California
7. California Science Center – Los Angeles, California
8. National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium – Dubuque, Iowa
9. Henry Vilas Zoo – Madison, Wisconsin
10. International Crane Foundation – Baraboo, Wisconsin
11. Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
12. Tennessee Aquarium – Chattanooga, Tennessee
13. Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park – Chattanooga, Tennessee

There were a few other facilities which I haven't visited for a long time that I saw again - I almost felt like should add Nashville as a new zoo, since it's grown so much since I saw it last!

I visited six collections this year (which was more than last year) but had 10 trips overall:

London Zoo x4 (Member)
Shepreth Wildlife Park x2
Linton Zoo
Hamerton Zoo Park
Paradise Wildlife Park
Colchester Zoo

If you count Nature Centers, then I visited a total of 22 zoological institutions this year. This has by far been my most successful year so far, so it will be difficult to top this total for next year. I re-visited 11 of these zoos, while another 11 were new ones.

1. Minnesota Zoo
2. Como Zoo
3. Sustainable Safari
4. Wood Lake Nature Center
5. Richardson Nature Center
6. Westwood Hills Nature Center
7. Lowry Nature Center
8. Hemker Park & Zoo
9. Safari North Wildlife Park
10. Zollman Zoo at Oxbow Park
11. Fawn-Doe-Rosa Wildlife Education Park
12. Lake Superior Zoo
13. Great Lakes Aquarium
14. Shell Factory & Nature park
15. Bailey-Mathews National Shell Museum
16. C.R.O.W (Center for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife)
17. World of Birds Wildlife Sanctuary & Monkey Park
18. Two oceans Aquarium
19. uShaka Sea World
20. uShaka Dangerous Creatures
21. Mitchel Park Zoo
22. Umgeni River Bird Park

I don't really have any concrete plans for any out-of-state trips for next year as of yet, but I am tentatively planning on visiting the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, SD, and the Red River Zoo in Fargo, ND sometime next year.

Nothing new, sadly. I'm hoping to visit Brookfield/Lincoln Park/Shedd during my Spring Break, but that may or may not happen.

Despite a rather slow start, this has been a fairly productive year - thanks in large part to the most ambitious jaunt around European zoological collections I've ever attempted in August and September :P as I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum I have yet to fully-recover physically and mentally (whether due to autistic burnout, pushing myself too hard mere months after catching COVID-19, or a combination thereof I am unsure) but it was more than worth it!

New collections in bold, as is standard.

I suppose I should answer a poll question I myself asked...

In 2022 I visited 4 old (And regularly visited in years past) zoos, as well as 3 new smaller ones, for a total of 7. I didn't visit anywhere more than once this year.

I revisited:
1. Shedd
2. Brookfield
3. Lincoln Park
4. St. Louis

I visited for the first time this year:
5. Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo
6. Bay Beach
7. The World Bird Sanctuary

Overall, being up by two from last year is not bad, although hopefully, I'll be able to get to more next year, including some new ones, although that is what I said last year too

I posted my all-time total on another thread yesterday, but I guess I will join the fun and take this opportunity to reflect more on the 16 particular "zoos" that I visited in 2022. In total, this year I revisited 6 "zoos," but visited 10 others for the first time ever.

For some interesting statistics, approximately 43% of the zoos I visited this year were in MA, another ~43% were in NY, and the remaining 2 zoos were in other states (IN and CO). While I only visited zoos in 4 states this year, I am hoping to visit zoos in 8 states next year. I am also hoping to visit even more new zoos next year than I did in 2022.

Places I revisited this year
1. Franklin Park Zoo, MA
2. Stone Zoo, MA
3. Woods Hole Science Aquarium, MA
4. Bronx Zoo, NY
5. Central Park Zoo, NY
6. Prospect Park Zoo, NY

Places I visited for the first time this year
7. Denver Zoo, CO
8. Indianapolis Zoo, IN
9. Blue Hills Trailside Museum, MA
10. Capron Park Zoo, MA
11. Ecotarium, MA
12. World War I Memorial Zoo, MA
13. Hudson River Wetlab, NY
14. New York Aquarium, NY
15. Queens Zoo, NY
16. Staten Island Zoo, NY

Is it larger than a single room/a handful of exhibits? What qualifies as a 'zoo' can be somewhat subjective, but if there are 20+ terrariums or multiple rooms, it probably can be considered a zoo.

Two places for the first time:

International Crane Foundation

Minnesota Zoo (was there for a meeting and only went through the aquarium, Tropical House and the native animal areas near the entry.

Visited Melbourne Zoo but that was for a program launch and only saw one New Holland Mouse.

There's an "Insect Zoo" with a bunch of beetles, spiders, and other arthropods as well as a (closed when I was there) butterfly exhibit and some saltwater coral tanks. I couldn't tell you how many individual live animal exhibits there are between these areas in the museum, but those are the only spots there with live animals while everything else in the building is your typical natural history museum fare. I'm going to go ahead and say it's just shy of your "zoo" definition until I the day I go back and make an effort to count.
