Lehigh Valley Zoo Lehigh Valley Zoo news

- A male scimitar-horned oryx calf was born in early April to mother Ducati.
- 24-year old Sparkles the "palomino" horse passed away in early March, she was the chestnut colored one.
-Mexican gray wolf Alpha passed away in February. He was the largest one.

Does anyone know which of their two ringtails they still have? I know they only have one now, but they haven't posted photos in two years. Scrolling back through social media to when they had 2 of them, it looks like one was/is a ringtail and one was/is actually a cacomistle.

Does anyone know about their fox? I saw that he's labeled as a Gray Fox, but he looks larger, has a longer coat, and the tip of his tail of white, not black. These signs point to a Red Fox. So then, I started doing research on Red Fox morphs and realized his colors look most like a cross fox, but lacks the black "cross" on his back. So then I was really confused and thought that maybe he was either a domesticated Red Fox that was bred to look this way, a Red Fox/Gray Fox hybrid, or an entirely different species of fox. Does anyone have any idea about this.

Yes, it is a Red Fox mutation. See, e.g., this photo in the gallery: Lehigh Valley - Louie the Gray Fox - ZooChat

Is she the one kept by the small carnivores, or the one by the otters?

I would assume she would be the one near the otters, because on my visit a few days ago she was off-exhibit and there was a sign that said “Animal Under Veterinary Care.”
