Lehigh Valley Zoo Lehigh Valley Zoo news

Just found this out from a zoo docent, but it has been a while since it happened around mid last year.

Lehigh Valley Zoo is saddened to mourn the passing of 13-year-old male Toggenburg goat, Spanky. A favorite of guests and staff alike, he was known for his love of back scratches and hanging out with his buddy Alfalfa. The zoo has seven goats left, three of them, including Alfalfa, are 12 years old. Spanky was a guest favorite throughout the years and will be missed.

Found out from a zoo docent the zoo has lost four goats over the last year. Spanky, the male Toggenburg goat, died last year at age 13. Dinah and Darla, the female Toggenburg goats, died this past winter at age 12 due to cancer. Alfalfa, the Nubian goat, just died last month at age 13 from severe arthritis with his old age. The only one of the original goats left is Phoebe, a 5 year old female Toggenburg goat who was born at LV Zoo. Buckwheat, the other Nubian goat, died all the way back in early 2019. The zoo is down to four goats, which are Phoebe and Stormy, Jasper and Onyx, three young goats who arrived last year.
