Lehigh Valley Zoo Lehigh Valley Zoo news

I recently got the chance to visit the zoo yesterday during their “Winter Light Spectacular” event and while most animals were off-exhibit due to the time of day, I did get a glimpse of some new additions that were not present on my last visit (about a year ago). Please excuse me if I’ve already stated something that’s already been mentioned in older posts.

- The old Snowy Owl exhibit near the river otter exhibit now houses a Striped Skunk and an Eastern Screech Owl. I believe the Snowy Owl was relocated to the Birds of Prey section of the zoo.

- The ringtails are now present in the old Raccoon exhibit and the skunk exhibit.

- There is a White Cockatoo now in the old Kookaburra exhibit near the pond.

- Habitat Madagascar has now gone vertical.

- The old Leopard Tortoise exhibit by the zebra exhibit has been transformed into an area with a few benches. I believe the Leopard Tortoises are off-exhibit for now until Habitat Madagascar is built.

What happened to the raccoon, skunk and kookaburra?

What happened to the raccoon, skunk and kookaburra?
The raccoon is in another corner of the zoo, the skunk is in the old snowy owl exhibit as I mentioned, and the kookaburra seems to have been long gone as it is not on their website no longer.

I think the zoo should try to get more large birds like flamingos, storks, or cranes. I could see them getting either Saddle Billed Storks Blue Cranes or Wattled Cranes to go with the African hoofstock. They could add Greater Flamingos to the main pond. That would be a nice touch and it would be a nice difference from Philly which has Caribbeans.
