Memphis Zoo Memphis Zoo News

According to the most recent issue of, "Exzooberance", a small magazine sent to members, the "Animals of the Night" exhibit or nocturnal house closed Jan. 1, for cleaning and upgrades. It is scheduled to re-open March 1. I thought the same about the aviary and some areas of the hippo camp in general. That they have place holders now and will add additional species later.
That makes since, however when I went was the Thursday before January 1st. I did see the place holders in the aviary such as a raven in an exhibit with signage for many different African birds including the crake, none of which were with it. I do not know if this is relevant or just bad luck but it appeared as if the polar bears were not on exhibit since I went back to find them multiple times to no avail.

Three juvenile female California sea lions have gone on exhibit after having arrived from Sea World San Antonio, where they were born, in June.

1.2 mandrills have replaced the patas monkeys in Zambezi River Hippo Camp. The male is from Zoo de Granby, while the two females are from the Birmingham Zoo.

Did the patas monkeys move to another exhibit in the Zoo, or have they been removed from the collection entirely? Interesting that they were replaced not even a year after being added (were they an entirely new species to Memphis?), but I guess the mandrills are a better fit to Hippo Camp's African rainforest theme.

The patas monkeys were moved to Primate Canyon. They are rotating with another species, but I'm not sure which exhibit they moved to.

Per this article, the zoo was one of six that received white-bellied pangolins last year. (Yes, it says Brookfield, but Memphis was mentioned).

Edit: anyone know if Memphis still has a ground cuscus?

Are Brookfield and Memphis the only zoos of the 5 ( excluding this zoologica place) that have them on display?
