Most overrated zoo

For the husbandry of (sub)tropical species, the local Californian climate of SD and thus the possibility to keep them outdoors (almost) all year long is a huge advantage; for species adopted to colder climates, Omaha is one step ahead.

This is a notable point, even though I visited in late December there were many reptiles to be seen outdoors in Reptile Walk. Equally all the primates were outdoors and tropical birds everywhere. Some of the exhibits are not to par perhaps, but most inhabitants are able to be outside basically the whole year round. Definitely a plus, and one neither Omaha nor Bronx has due to location. (And frankly most of SDZ would be nigh impossible to safely traverse in snowy or especially icy conditions, too many stairs and steep grades! Nor would the skytram nor the busses be able to operate in such conditions either.)
Many winter holdings are less than optimal, but they do the job. The ability for SDZ to hold pretty much everything outside year round doesn't have much leverage in terms of exhibit quality that the thread is largely revolving on, but it is good for the animals and allows them to keep a wide variety more easily.

Bronx Zoo
Toronto Zoo
Zoo Miami

Those are for me the three most overrated zoos in the US.
What exactly about Toronto makes it overrated? Seeing as it is the only AZA-accredited Canadian facilities, and one of the few well-known facilities in the eastern portion of the country, I've always thought it was only rated so highly because it had limited competition.
The habitats in some areas are in need of a touch-up, but those are coming with the new masterplan. Other than the few rough habitats, I don't really see any reason to call it "overrated" per se, but that might just be me.

Have you visited the other two facilities? As I have previously seen, you have not visited Toronto. I have been to both Toronto and more recently Bronx, and both are amazing. Bronx is better than SD imo, and it’s my personal favorite (Omaha is clearly better). Miami can speak for itself, large zoo, large paddocks, many species, all exhibit are excellent, good or decent. I could understand the argument for San Diego on the other hand, it’s great and all, but it has some issues, but every single zoo in America has them. Once you’ve reached America’s top three, you ain’t leaving it.

I actually kinda agree. Omaha looks a lot more cool.

FYI there's 7 AZA-accredited facilities in Canada
  • Calgary Zoo
  • Assiniboine Park Zoo
  • Montréal Biodôme
  • Ripley's Aquarium of Canada
  • Toronto Zoo
  • Vancouver Aquarium
  • Zoo de Granby
