Allwetterzoo Münster Munster ZOO

The old coati and bear exhibits gets renovated and will later this year be housing dholes. It is planed that the area also should house sloth bears, to which exhibit the dholes also will have acces.

Recently the Chinese dholes (Cuon alpinus lepturus) arrived and can be seen in their new enclosure.

On Thursday, the cape hyrax (Procavia capensis) had several young. (No exact number given). Should be the first breeding for the zoo.

Meanwhile, the two sun bears (Helarctos malayanus) Josy and Frodo have returned to Tierpark Berlin, their birthplace.

I was just in time to see them in Münster then! I wonder what will happen to their enclosure.

Sadly 24-year old female Lion (Panthera leo) Zeta was euthanised recently due to age related problems. She was born in Givskud zoo on the 21st of March 1998 and arrived at Allwetterzoo Münster on the 13th March 2003.

What are the plans for the bear house complex?

Sometime ago they originaly planned a spectacled bear enclosure with an additional coati and if I remember correctly bush dog enclsoure.

I do like that they want to keep slpth bears ans asian wild dogs but the current enclosure seem to small for such a combination, and honestly even separate care.
Tho this coinhabitance might work I highly doubt that the current very limited space is the plattform to built on. No animals should be used in experimentations but especialy not such rare species that were threatened in the wild and relied on the rather few small population available in european zoos.

On another note.

Sorry if this got mentioned before but the red neck ostrich couple was given a few blue neck eggs to practice and one of the two hatched chicks is very dark. A morph I have neither seen before nor could I find on the internet.

Recently, two bobcats (Lynx rufus) were born. (I suppose for the first time in Münster). Sex is still unknown, they are mostly in a nest box behind the scenes as of now.

I wasn't sure, but according to multiple posts on the zoo's Instagram account, there is only 1 bobcat left... It is a male!

At the start of July a Przewalski's horse (Equus ferus przewalskii) was born.

Does anyone know what happened to the gray seals? I didn't see any of them at my visit today.

Aside from that construction of the knew enclosures for doles and sloth bears has started. The sun bears were either already gone or behind the scenes.
