He is very genetically valuable as his only living relative would be his paternal half-brother Colonel at Fort Worth iirc. It would be great if he and Val produce a calf soon!
With how good things are at OKC with one breeding female, and her three daughters one of which is set to breed in the next couple of years it wouldn't be beneficial moving Whimpys group to OKCWouldn’t it make sense to move just whimpy and her daughters? Rex is already in OKC. Rex and Natasha are Opal’s parents.
I believe it is the plan to breed Obert and Val, not sure why a calf hasn’t been produced yet.ok so that wasn’t my imagination. In that case why don’t they breed Obert with Val? Also I didn’t realize this but White Oak Conservation Center has NO bull currently. Does anyone know who would be a great potential bull to sent to White Oak to breed with the girls there.
@Mr.Ivory how genetically valuable is Obert at the endangered ark foundation? You think he might be used for breeding?
Obert would be a great choice for White Oak, but if they want to have proven bulls I would suggest moving Romeo, and Johnson to White Oak. But they do have Casey and he has had a calf in 2008 and was seen mating Rasha in 2010 I believe.ok so that wasn’t my imagination. In that case why don’t they breed Obert with Val? Chandra is apparently a non breeder. They have Bamboo there with a history of aggression to calves. So they probably had to consider that.
I doubt Obert is leaving, I’d imagine they’re attempting to breed him with Val and I doubt EAF would want to send their breeding group out honestly. Romeo is also likely going to stay at Fort Worth for a while and Johnson should just be moved to bachelor holding at this point imo.Obert would be a great choice for White Oak, but if they want to have proven bulls I would suggest moving Romeo, and Johnson to White Oak
Its great news to hear that OKC is planning to breed Achara at a young age she has been able to two of her siblings birth and has shown great maternal care t he future is bright for OKCAnd Oklahoma City Zoo next year when I reached out to them earlier this year told me that Achara they intend to have her to start breeding with Kandula as she’s turning 8 this year.

White Oak should be receiving Ringling’s bulls very soon and they should be able to breed. However, another bull would be nice since a few of the cows are related to all the breeding bulls.
Most of the young bulls at the Ringling are sons of Charlie so that makes them half and full brothers to most of the girls White Oak though the bull with the most genetic value is Osgood the only calf of Charlie and EmmaDo you know who the ringling bulls are and if so how genetically valuable are they? Regarding Val having a breeding recommendation with Obert that does make a lot more sense now however I have a feeling Whimpys family line is moving to the Tulsa Zoo for their new elephant exhibit when they open in 2024. Ive heard rumors Tulsa wants to get new elephants from the endangered ark foundation.
Look at the population thread for details about the Ringling bulls but most of them aren’t very genetically valuable, no. Some of them are slightly because of their moms but most of them descend from Vance or Charlie who are both very well represented.Do you know who the ringling bulls are and if so how genetically valuable are they? Do you remember where you heard Tulsa is planning on receiving their breeding cows from EAF? I was under the impression that Tulsa was planning on importing cows from Europe like Cincy and Smithsonian.
As stated before Romeo through his sire Pete is genetically valuable but through his mother Alana he has four half sibling decreasing his genetic value. Colonial sadly is a behavioral non breeder, Johnson should be moved to Denver or facility looking to house a bachelor herd.Romeo too is genetically valuable in addition they have Colonial who’s also genetically valuable that they might breed with someday to Bluebonnet and Belle for example. I didn’t know Val had a breeding recommendation with Obert but considering she does have a bull to breed with now I’m not too concerned about her anyway when it comes to have a calf. Where would be a good place to move Johnson though cause I agree he shouldn’t be breeding anymore.

They could which would be great considering his genetic value but for to long zoos have relied on AI to breed their cows. But they could use Colonials sperm to artificially inseminate other females couldn’t they?
