Pairi Daiza Pairi Daiza News 2025

It seems they enjoy their new exhibit. A lot of space for these active squeaking swimmers. Let’s see what animal will inhabit their old enclosure.
Seems fairly obvious it will be the expected Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys.

A recent newsletter mentioned the Asian small-clawed otters would be moving into the otter exhibit. That same newsletter mentioned them currently being in with the crested macaques, and no longer living with the orangutans. This is a bit of a downgrade for the ASCOs I think...

That said, strangely Pairi Daiza has, unlike Beauval, not officially communicated about the Chinese monkeys...

Even if I didn't see the ASCOs with the crested macaques last year when visiting I recall that they had two 'groups' of them last year already - one with the orangutans and one (which reportedly also had babies) with the crested macaques.
As far as I understand the newsletter the otters with the orangutans stay and only the ones from the crested macaques move into the otter exibit next to the Orangerie.

I feel like if the Chinese government is going to give away monopolized animals, then they would make any zoo interested in getting the animals build a sparkling new enclosure instead of reuse an old enclosure.

From what I understood from different forums the former gibbon enclosure is only a temporary solution for the golden snub-nosed monkeys as PD has plans to expand the Chinese garden with a Chinese village (incl. accomondations in the area where event dome and employee parking is) and built a new enclosure for golden snub-nosed monkeys their.

Yes, I find that a bit odd given their propensity for publicity normally. Maybe they are waiting until nearer the time that they get them, but I would have expected some sort of advance publicity by now, if the deal is certain which seems the case.

I'm not so suprised - even if there are a lot of similarities between PD and Beauval the 'communication policy' is almost opposite.

Beauval is trying to make as much advance publicity as possible with games and detailed building updates (not onyl for the golden snub-nosed monkeys now - also with former projects like the dome or the large south american aviary)

PD however wants to keep everything under secret for as long as possible - just take the new Sanctuary as an examle - there has been some general communication a few years ago when there were the public hearings but since then nothing has been communicated officially.
It's not even 100% clear whether the Sanctuary is 'only' focussing on South America as initally thought or similar to Beauval covers the tropical forests of all continents (what seems to be the case now according to rumors)...

Well the planting in the Sanctuary certainly won't be, that has been confirmed. In the official Facebook group the arrival of chameleons was announced by someone(and deleted a few hours later by pairi daiza, which only gives it more legitimacy). And then I have heard rumors of gibbons, Dwarf hippos, komodo dragons, the black panthers etc being moved to the Sanctuary but that's very speculative off course.

Pairi Daiza has acquired the old camping of Brugelette and will transform it into a glamping! It will open in the summer of 2026 :p finally affordable accomodation, i can't say how happy i am since it might be possible to sleep there, even with my limited budget:D

Also, for the first time, a study has been taken to look into the economic significance for the region, it contains some interesting graphs and stats, "Un levier de croissance" : avec 145,2 millions d'euros de retombées et 3 167 emplois en 2024, Pairi Daiza s'impose comme un acteur économique majeur

some more pictures of the new glamping entrance building, it is an old farm that is going to be completely renovated. (i got the pictures from google maps)

cleary a lot of work will still have to take place, construction will start in june if everything goes well and will be built before the start of the 2027 season.

in other news: the former gibbon exhibit is almost finished and seems ready for its new inhabitants... Will PD win the race from Beauval to first exhibit the Golden snub nosed monkeys?
