Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

The general rule is that unless you can back something up with a screenshot of a file, it's untrue.

For example, with the Africa DLC leak, there were screenshots of the files that could not have been doctored

Ok, Conservation Pack is out and here’s some new info:
  • Wild horse is compatible with the camel! Hooray!
  • Scimitar-horned Oryx is compatible with African buffalo, zebra, ostrich, and giraffe. Kind of disappointing, I was hoping for compatibility with the Gemsbok.
  • Siamang is compatible with the orangutan, but not the otter or tapir like I was expecting. They also move on the ground quadrupedally, not bipedally, which is a little weird (do they do that irl?). Also orangutans cannot brachiate at the moment, but I expect them to in the future.
  • Amur leopard is certainly a leopard (not much to say here).
  • Baird’s Tapir now has “Aquatic” in its tags, so hopefully it and the Malayan will become deep divers in the future.
I should also mention that I love the trailer music. Frontier had different music for the first 3 packs, but changed it to a thematically-appropriate remix of the main PZ theme for each pack (surf music for the Aquatic pack, New Orleans jazz for North America, Oktoberfest-sounding music for Europe, etc.). For the Conservation Pack, the music sounds very hopeful and heroic, fitting for a pack all about saving wildlife.

Just in case you aren't aware (sure that you are!), the species enrichment is different from compatibility.

Basically all herbivores in the game can peacefully co-exist in a habitat, but not all will gain a bonus to their enrichment.

Yeah but out of all of those herbivores than enrich the scimitar oryx the buffalo is the oddest

The animal chorus feature seems very interesting. I wish more animals had it added, very weird to me that wolves were the only other animals that got it and no lions or chimpanzees and bonobos.

I would like them to make the Lion roars louder as you can hear them if you are at the other end of a zoo. I certainly can when I am at Chester.

I'm trying to get back in the game. I haven't played in a long time (but I was still buying the DLCs lol) but I have time this weekend. Working on a Fairy Tale themed zoo where it's all animals commonly featured in fairy tales. Also some cute garden and pond areas.

The new conservation pack has some nice additions, and I'm happy about getting some new educational displays in the free update. Looking forward to using the wild horse!

I'm trying to create a museum in the game. Is there a way / hack to get the camera explore view on paths that the support structure has been deleted??? The support structures aren't supposed to be visible in a real museum. Maybe @Leaf Productions could give some advice? Thanks in advance!

We gots patch notes!
As expected (I think), it's mostly minor fixes with the new Conservation Pack animals, but there's one notable exception: our good friend the Bactrian Camel had a growth spurt! Now they're properly in-scale with the rest of the game's animals, or at least with the Przewalski's Horse. Speaking of the horse, though, they're now suitable with the Desert biome, which allows them to actually be roommates with the camels!
Now give them a facelift and maybe I'll actually use them in a zoo. (once I get the game, that is...:()

Just out of curiosity, does anybody know what the current animal rig list is? I remember seeing a tier list that categorized each animal based on what their rig was (or something like that). Some of them were weird: the monitor lizards are in the "crocodile" category, the pigs and tapirs are classified as "peccaries", and the "deer" category is mostly antelopes while the Reindeer is a "horse."
That tier list only went up to the South America Pack, and with several new kinds of animals released since then (kangaroo, meerkat, sea lion, etc.), I wonder if any new rigs have been created/where the new animals fit in.

That list was based on the animal folder they were in, which is a loose connection between them. Most animals share some capacity of animations between them, however edited they may be. As it stands, every animal, other than the Malayan tapir *technically* has a unique rig in some form. Animals like the grey seal were edited from the big cats (based on leftover data) though so even something as unique as a pinniped still use assets from other animals.

Oh. Then what folders are the Australia Pack and up animals in?
Also, poor Malayan Tapir. Left behind in Zoo Tycoon 1, only to come back as a Baird’s Tapir in a white tank top. Please fix him, Frontier.

Cassowary - Flightless_Birds
Dingo - Dogs
Koala and Kangaroo - Marsupials (which was a new folder for Australia)

There's been a few other new folders for stuff like Binturong it's in the Binturongs folder or Meerkat are in the Meerkats folder, Beaver and Prairie Dog as well as Capybara are in a Rodents folder

Interesting. I thought the Binturong was part of the "Lemurs" folder because people suspected it was using stuff from the Red Panda (who is also in "Lemurs").
I also assumed that the Prairie Dog and Meerkat were in the same folder. I always found it kind of sus that Frontier gave us another fox and another social burrower right after the Africa Pack.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's now a penguins folder, a pinnipeds folder, an otters/mustelids folder (to account for the badger), and a unique folder for the Platypus.

Otters are on their own, Badger is in Badgers, Platypus is in Platypuses, Seal is in Seals, Sea Lion is in Sea_Lions, Moose is in Moose, and a lot of other weird ones

It doesn't make a lot of sense and the folders really aren't indicative of too much it's just kind of a way for Frontier to group things, but it's not the best. As someone who mods something I could do is just change 2 or 3 files and have a different folder name and it'd work the same
