Singapore Zoo Singapore Zoo News 2024

Would it be possible for Singapore Zoo to open an Small mammal/norcturnal house?
They used to have a small mammal house, Critters Longhouse, many years ago that is now the Tortoise Shellter. Some of the animals are still around the parks like the South African ground squirrels, kinkajous, leopard cats and Malayan porcupines. For the nocturnal house, they already have Night Safari…

I remember watching a Night Safari Tram Tour video where there at some point there were some "Parrot on Stick" enclosures, I believe the thumbnail was the Red Crowned Crane in the Barasingha enclosure. It was a 2 parter video that I'm very sure I saved into my Mandai playlist but currently I can't find it

I'll be on the search for some other old Tram Tours if I can

Extra Edit: Chiang Mai Night Safari has or at least had Himalayan Griffon Vultures, just to confirm it wasn't them right?

Chiang Mai Night Safari had cinereous vultures and white-bellied sea eagles along their drive-thru but the cinereous vultures were no longer in their collection as of my latest visit (June 2024)

@Zooish do you know what is happening to the Komodo dragon exhibit?

Announcement on the Zoo's website: "The Komodo Dragon exhibit will be temporarily closed from 1 September 2024 while new sheltered walkways are built in the zoo. Exhibit is expected to reopen sometime in 2025."

6 months to build sheltered walkways seems a bit long..

Some small updates:
Stitch the African Dwarf Crocodile is back on display at the former Chinese Alligator/Indian Pond Turtle exhibit. 0.2 Alligator Snapping Turtles have also been added to the exhibit.
Any idea what happened with the Chinese alligator and the Indian pond turtles at Singapore Zoo?

So currently there's 2 Zebras in the Giraffe enclosure, that's neat

Edit: Asked a keeper about it since I was also looking for the Lechwe (not on display for a while sadly) but they are planning on combining both the Zebra and Giraffe enclosures

I'd say about time

I do hope they fix the giraffe situation too and change to pure-bred giraffe too. They held South African giraffes at some point then imported a Rothschildt's bull (brilliant... for breeding) from Europe and bred from him! They lost that bull at some point and since brought in 2.0 giraffe hybrids from Mysuru in India.

That Rothchild's bull is still at the Zoo. His only offspring is a hybrid male which is also still at the Zoo.

Mandai are probably not going to be breeding giraffes for the foreseeable future so they've moved to a bachelor herd

how many kangaroos and wallabies does SZ and NS have?
Definitely not all of them but I was able to find these from an Instagram page run by the Australasia keepers. Not sure if all of them are still around

Kangaroos: Rambo, Hiro, Hana, Maxx, Roddy
Wallabies: Shawn, Nelas

I believe only 2.1 kangaroos and 1.0 wallaby left
