Stone Zoo Stone Zoo

The hyacinth macaws were in what is normally the prehensile-tailed porcupine exhibit in Windows to the Wild, while their usual exhibit is even more barren than normal and seemingly under construction.

There is an unsigned, seemingly empty terrarium in Treasures of the Sierra Madre. I don't remember what was previously inside.

the arminion mooflan and sheep looked to do well on the mountain. sad to see 4/5 markor there now. mooflan were striking.

there was a “basement” in avary? what was on dipslay?

Does anyone know exactly where the tropical aviary building used to be in the zoo? I was very young, so my memory is foggy.

That makes sense. I vaguely remember climbing a hill, entering at the top of the tropical aviary, descending some stairs through the exhibit, and exiting at a lower level. Does that seem at all accurate?

Also, in that old map in the video, there's a dead end path starting across from the current yak exhibit and ending at a circular area behind and between the markhor's rock hill and where the tropical aviary used to be. Does anyone know what that was? I think I might see it in a current satellite photo, so I circled it in yellow. I also think I might see it in an architectural schematic from when the new entrance was being planned, so I circled that in yellow too. It is a path that led all the way around markhor/mexi wolves and also has/had an off shoot path that led to restrooms and observation area over Spot pond

And you are right how the path through Aviary went

Thank you for confirming my foggy memory about the tropical aviary and explaining that mystery spot on the old map. I thought it might have been an animal exhibit, but an overlook of the pond makes sense geographically. It seems like an out of the way place for restrooms however. It would be nice if they could ever make use of those areas again.

Does the zoo plan to breed the Markhor or phase them out? That hill is a lot of space and could definitely be put to better use.
I didn't know, but a year or so ago, a zookeeper told me they haven't had a male markhor in a few years. Although, recent Facebook marketing for the zoo featured a photo of a male markhor. I got my hopes up, but I think it was just a stock photo.

interesting! If they were to really use that exhibit to it’s fullest they should make it easier to view the markhor or whatever creature they choose to put in since I see them maybe 1 in ten times i visit the zoo.

animal care person said they have 4 female markor as the barn isn’t big enough to house more. in the past, they had more but new gidelines, I gess? they fixed the retane wall by the markor barn. I wonder if barn where wolf signage on wall could be used to house more?
