Stone Zoo Stone Zoo

Tang, the zoos oldest female leopard and grandmother of Kira Victoria was euthanized. She was a few months short of her twentieth birthday. She had produced many cubs over the years with her mate, the late Sazik. She is succeeded by her granddaughter, Kira and her new, potential mate Harry.

Three, American Alligators have been on exhibit for nearly a week. There isn't underwater viewing but the glass is framed-in low to the ground. There are also smaller alligators (12"+\-) that Education Staff can bring out to meet the public. Windows to the Wild is still under construction. The buildings roof has been completely replaced and the monstrous overhang is now gone. Caribbean Flamingo are back in their courtyard exhibit. There is a mesh canopy over the flamingo exhibit. The area is still not open to visitation, but can be seen by the Jaguar exhibit. I am unsure what will take up residence in Windows to the Wild, other than the Flamingo. Since the overhang is now gone they have erected shading so the glare on the viewing glass isn't so harsh. The exhibits didn't have that issue when the overhang was in-place. It is a fun, exciting time at Stone Zoo. The weather has been cooperative and the animals have been extremely active. Harry and Kira (Snow Leopards) continue to be on-show together. Kira was always an active leopard bounding all over the exhibit mesh and rocky cliff. Now she pesters and plays with Harry and are visible.

E. B&W Colobus and Black-handed Spider Monkey are back in their exhibits near River Otter. American Black Bears are back on-show.

A Red-Rumped Agouti was born on September 18th and is on exhibit with its mother and the Cotton-Top Tamarins.

The fence around the Markhor mountain is being replaced. It does not affect the Snow Leopard exhibit or viewing areas.

Sixteen year old male Jaguar Pacal was euthanized. He was having issues after surgery. He sired six cubs over the years. His daughter, Chessie, is still at the Zoo.

Cotton-top tamarin was born recently.
