That's fantastic news Al, here's hoping for some breeding. Let's be honest, your results with the sifaka and sakis has been great. Let's hope your marsupials can follow suit! :D

Nice to see the exchange happen to make up 2 more potential breeding pairs. Well needed in the program!

Also, the first episode of the new series of Wildlife at the Zoo featured Mary to sun bear moving to Taronga and being introduced to Mr Hobbs, and an attempted mating of Dora and Amala the Indian rhinos at TWPZ.

'Nuoc' is the Saigon's second baby that has had to be hand reared. The first was also a female, Elke, who is still at Taronga and paired with the male 'Bobo' from China.

Also I think the other female tree kangaroo 'Salsa' might still be at Taronga.

I assume you are meant to say Taronga has now 1.2 Goodfellow's?

re. Tree kangaroos

Hi all, Taronga now have a (hopeful) breeding trio of Goodfellow's Tree-Kangaroos. Salsa who was originally from Sandiego and the new female from Belfast, Kwikila. You did have a female named Katie from San Antonio back in 93-94, she is up at Currumbin. So fingers crossed, some offspring are produced. Parum and Salsa have mated several times and Salsa has given birth but has not been successful to raise young. Kwikila is new and will be introduced separately to Parum.

Visited Taronga on Saturday with some friends. A few small snippets...
-Lemur forest adventure is progressing well. Established trees and a 'forest' of dead tree poles have been installed at the eastern end and the infrastructure of the exhibit is beginning to go up. Am a little concerned that the animal's space is going to be compromised by the size of the palyground.
-New playground in B2B is open and looks good.
-Francois Langur off display.
-Access to first tapir display adjacent to binturong closed off comletely, whilst the underwater section is empty and there are boards across all the glass.
-Tapir have gone back to their original exhibit by the tahr. Mulched, decked out with palms and a new 'canopy'.
-Cassowary still in their temporary exhibit opposite the barbary sheep.
-Pygmy hippo back in the waterhole.
-Both gorilla groups on display.
-New pathway between the walkabout and Australian wetland is being built. Possibly another exit as this area is now essentially a dead-end.
-Tigers and lions still swapping enclosures.
-New female sun bear very active and very wild and looks to have 'trashed' the exhibit. Which obviously means she is enjoying herself.
-Top cafe being renovated....again
-Great southern oceans closed for renovations....again. No access to leopard seals or penguins.
-Moore Park aviary nearly emptied of animals

Thanks for the update Glyn.
-Was the tapir/pygmy hippo enclosure in the rainforest precinct undergoing renovations or possibly providing privacy for a new arrival?
-Do you have a species list for the Moore Park aviary? Are the palm squirrels still in there?

which one is the Moore Park aviary?

Its right next to Great Southern Oceans show area, opposite the gorillas. Its down some steps I think, isolated and pretty easy to overlook. Had Asian species (birds and the squirrels) when I visited in 2009. Its actaully labelled "Moore Park aviary" on the map, and is presumably only still there because of heritage listing?

I found a photo in the gallery. I don't think I saw it when I was there.

It has mannakins in it, and squirrels.
I had heard the asian tapir exhibit was being developed for pygmy hippo. go figure
