Taronga DID receive one of the Pygmy Hippos from Cairns recently
http://www.zoochat.com/24/staff-going-without-pay-so-lions-150467/index10.htmlZooboy, did you say that TWPZ managed to get one of the common hippos from Cairns? If so, what sex?
It has mannakins in it, and squirrels.

Pygmy Hippo in Wild Asia?
Why? It can't be a permanent move can it?
Yes it is. Both Kambiri (b. Taronga, 2010) and the new male from Cairns (who is at Taronga) will move there AFAIK. I think they are going to split both parts of the old Malayan Tapir exhibit to make two exhibits (one next to the Francois langurs and binturongs and the other next to the otters).
And 'Wild Asia' is now 'Rainforest Trail'.
just the one at Taronga I think. He moved to another enclosure (the former pigmy hippo enclosure, funnily enough). Taronga likes playing musical chairs with their animalsWhat happened to the Malayan tapirs?

yes, the only captive long-beaked echidnas of any species are the ones at Taronga. With the recent death of the log beaked echidna at Moscow Zoo, does that mean that Taronga is currently the only zoo in the world to exhibit (Eastern) long beaked echidnas?
