Wow, thanks for the info and pics, guys!

I'm really happy to hear about another zebra baby being born at our zoo. I was just reading about how rare the Grevy's is, so it's great to hear there's one more added to their population.

Speaking of animal populations, are there plans to breed the meerkats again? For a while I've noticed there's only about four. I understand they can be territorial (I watch Meerkat Manor) so I would imagine getting new ones and introducing them to the current gang would be a little tricky.

when did they breed the meerkats at all,i thought they were all the same sex?

ISIS has two males, two females listed for the Toronto's Slender-tailed meerkats, but ISIS sometimes has out of date/wrong information (like how they have only one New Guinea Singing Dog listed, the male) so I could be wrong. Having just four females or four males would make breeding a little difficult :P The last litter they had (to my knowledge) was sometime around 2004 although I could be way off.

Isis

what is ISIS,ive heard about it but i don't know the adress.

The pictures in the gallary are from the winter it is completely different. The sign is by the camels in Eurasia. It was put there in the winter.

What do you guys think of about this issue? Do you think the Foundation will live? Here is my opinion.

The Toronto Zoo Foundation should persue but with the goal of rasing the 20 million a year. They would need to come up with different campaigns and things to raise it. If they cannot raise that money then they should but an end to it. If the Management bored and the foundation faised 10 million dollers each then they may know what the verdict will be.

As for both of the chairs, I personally don't like either. All recent issues revolve around them and the Toronto Zoo has never had so many problums before.

since when did TZ only have 3 spotted necked otters and 1 river otter.Did on eof the river otters dies?I also remember there being two pairs of african otters.I remember Ginger and Honey and Oscar and Edgar (wish they had an outdoor area, did they ever, same with the meerkats,i seem to rememeber 1)
kk.Im going to do the elephant identification now

Thika:Thika is the tall and slender and is the lightest one.She has stubby tusks with one slightly bigger then the other. She also has extremely tall legs.

Iringa:large rip in right ear and extremely short even tusks

Tara:Tara is the largest and she has a small notch in her left ear.her right tusk is smaller than her left tusk

Toka:Toka has a little hole on the edge of each ear.She also has extremely long tusks,in fact, the longest. The right one is some what turned out.

Tequila:Tequila has very smooth skin and medium sized pointed tusks that turn in a bit.

Tessa:Tessa is very easy to see.Her left tusk is very clearly turned out as if shes pointing as something. Her right tusk is very very straight though

Ok,that is all the elephants.IF im wrong on anything, please correct me

Cool review of the elephants, The zoo had 3 river otters on display when I vistied today, there are 2 spooted neak otters on display as well.

I have posted numorous reviews of the Toronto Zoo on another thread. I am going in order, some of them I have posted on this thread but I think there are a few reviews that haven't been. The thread is Toronto Zoo Review's

ISIS is correct in the number of spotted-necked otters.
Currently on exhibit are Fred and Ginger (a wild-caught pair). Matthew is off exhibit (his mate, Winnie, died within the past year). These otters never had an outside exhibit, although Matthew has an outdoor run next to his holding (if you look out the windows beside the mandrill exhibit you can make it out).

Good work on the elephant ID's. They are from a few years ago, and a few things have changed:

Thika: Thika is the tall and slender and is the lightest one.She has stubby tusks with one slightly bigger then the other. She also has extremely tall legs. Right now, Thika's tusks are pretty much the same length. They are rounded at their tips and flare out from her trunk.

Iringa: large rip in right ear and extremely short even tusks
Bingo!

Tara:Tara is the largest and she has a small notch in her left ear.her right tusk is smaller than her left tusk
Good job! Tara also has stiff hind knees and walks a bit funny.

Toka:Toka has a little hole on the edge of each ear.She also has extremely long tusks,in fact, the longest. The right one is some what turned out.
Toka's tusks are definitely the best way to tell her apart. She broke her right one a year ago, so it is only half the length of the left one.

Tequila:Tequila has very smooth skin and medium sized pointed tusks that turn in a bit. Tequila was the prettiest elephant in my opinion ... until she broke her left tusk right up at her trunk. Her right tusk is still long and pointy; it stays very close to her trunk. Tequila also has a VERY hairy tail.

Tessa:Tessa is very easy to see.Her left tusk is very clearly turned out as if shes pointing as something. Her right tusk is very very straight though
Tessa broke her wonky tusk off several years ago, so it is just a stubby little bit now (it still does point outwards if you look carefully). Her ears are very ragged.

I have posted many pictures of the stages of the Tundra Trek. The most updated ones are June 23, 2008. I have finally begun to understand the layout and the plan of the Tundra, if you look at the Tundra Trek Map and look my the Musk Ox house, you can see this white box and a rectangle sticking off of it, that is the Mayan Temple. You can also see a Cone shape and some ponds, that is the waterfall (cone) and ponds around the myan temple. I have tried to upload a picture with the zoos satillite image of the americas section with the new exhibits over top of them, it was done on paint unfortanatly it would not let me up load it. If you understood the cone thing and the other things I explained it should be easy to see where it is all going. If you have any questions on where the exhibits are or what I am talking about please post it and I will try to explain better.

Thanks for the update! Already I really like the Tundra Trek. Maybe we can toss some annoying visitors into the wolf exhibit ;) Like those parents who don't supervise their kids or those who ignore the "do not feed" signs. :p

Just as a little bit of trivia, this will be the third wolf exhibit at the Toronto Zoo. Before being placed in the Canadian Domain, the wolves were in the polar bear maternity den. I think this one will be the best one yet!

Really I didn't know that, thats cool, how many did they have then cause the den is small?

Ungulate, I was wondering if you know what happened at the zoo yesterday by the yak exhibit? There was also a Reindeer and its baby there? The Security and Safety were there as well?

Countdown: 1 day until Keeper for a Day!!!!!

Im thinking they probably accidently escaped and the staff were able to corner them into there?

just a note - I'm going to close this thread soon ... in future, please create one thread per topic rather than one long thread with everything in it.

If there is something within this thread that you would like me to split into a new thread - please let me know the post numbers.

Um,ok...I know this isn't my buisness...but coul you go onto the Toronto Zoo Reviews Forum and branch off all the reviews into threads.I just thought since you may do it anyway,i would just ask if u could for sure.Again, sorry about the buissnes thing,I just thought it may help so that if you do end up deleting it,Quartz92 doesn't have to go an dre-type them all over again.

Funnily enough, I don't really have a problem with that thread - from reading the title, it is pretty obvious what it is about ... it is a series of reviews of the various parts of the Toronto zoo. I think it would work well (perhaps better) as separate threads, but also works well as a single thread.

The difference with this thread is that it is about a lot of different things, each of which really deserves its own thread rather than being hidden amongst all the other news and discussion.

By the way - I don't "delete" things ... if I close a thread, it still remains there, you just can't add new posts to it.

... but I apologise for taking this thread off topic further!

Maybe we should have sperate threads,

We could have ones like this:
Toronto Zoo Future Developments
Toronto Zoo Animals
Toronto Zoo ...

... Does any one have anymore, and once we have a list, Sim could close this thread and we could add all these new threads
