Kiang - when I visited the Park in September there was a list of eggs in the Incubation Centre , next to the Penguins , including an open-billed stork egg which was due to hatch any day then .

Thank you Bele, exciting times, it didn't take the storks long to settle into their aviary.

Can we have a review of your visit pleas cat-man, also were any other future species mentioned alongside the walrus?

yes, sometime over the weekend i will give a review and post my photos.

Future species apart from walrus they want is:
Komodo Dragon
Tree Kangaroo
Mandrill
Gharial
Anteater
Cape Hunting Dog
Aye-Aye
Pygmy Hippo
and i think there was a few more

Why are all Zoo's wanting the same things!
Practically every single species on that list is seen at London!
Cotswold is great at what it does keeping large animals in large environments and I think it should keep on that method not incorporating Animals such as Komodo Dragons etc.
Hope I havent affended anyone :)

Then again, Cotswold has one of the best reptile collections in the country, so it doesn't seem entirely illogical if that's the step they want to take with Komodos and Gharials.

Whilst I like the rarer species on that list (aye aye, tree kangaroo, etc) and wouldn't mind seeing a great ape species, I definately don't want the Park commericialising into a collection on the scopes of Chester, London, etc. One of the best things about the park is the quaint serenity of the Park's country setting; similar feelings gained at the Aspinall Parks, Cricket St Thomas and Marwell (on quiet days). :)

I actually think that 'wish list' is pretty imaginative and would welcome any of those as future additions to the CWP. I can imagine with having such a large site they could build brilliant enclosures for Hunting Dogs and Pygymy Hippos, whilst Aye-Ayes would seem a good choice considering how the park has gone lemur mad in the last few years! As for Tree Kangaroos... I have one word for that: AWESOME! :D

If even a couple of those animals do arrive in the next few years I think it will be brilliant; Cotswold has really made serious progress lately and it's good to see that they want to keep at it.

I agree with you Sand-Cat. I just hope they dont convert area's for Small animals when the land could be used for a larger species which would be very peaceful there.

I have heard all these mentioned by a very senior member of staff apart from the Walrus,at least 2 of these are now off the zoo wish list, and a few others added insted.

This is an interesting list of possible new species for Cotswold. I don't think adding any of these (plus the planned Giraffe next year) would seriously alter the atmosphere of their collection- it would just make it even better than it is now. Cotswold's rural location (no large towns nearer than Oxford or Cheltenham) is what makes it such a pleasant and tranquil place to visit and that will stay as it is. I doubt any of these extra species(if they do arrive in the future) would make any major difference to their visitor numbers, though they would obviously enrich the collection further and might pull in some extra visitors over time.

Oh, I agree with that completely; I just don't want the Park to be 'overcrowded' if you get what I mean. ;)

Well, judging from previous posts, its seems my beloved cotswolds may be moving up in the world!!

But as others have said, i too hope it doesnt loose its charm!
