Vogelpark Avifauna Vogelpark Avifauna news

This year a total of 50+ rainbow lorikeets have hatched so far.

A couple days ago there was also an incident with a show vulture landing on a young child and grandma. iirc both had to be taken to the hospital.

Old news, but I didn't see it come by.
Avifauna received 3 ring-tailed lemurs on the third of august from Artis, I do believe this were 3 males but I am not sure.

Here is my first (big) update about Vogelpark Avifauna since October:

- At the duck pond in Nuboso you can find now a new duck-specie: An couple Cinnamon teals (Anas cyanoptera)

- The Red-Legged seriema's (1.1) are now locked-up in the house where formerly the two kiwi-chicks be seated. The reason is that they have in front of a lot of visitors died around 30 Silkie chicks.

- At the large pelican pond are two pelicans (of the 24 they have) that have not been clipped because the keepers cannot catch them. A few times a day they fly around the park.

- The two griffon vultures they have at the fly show (who flight into the visitors) are now at the vulture avairy. The are a bit dominant to the Southern ground-hornbills and White-headed vultures. So they are moved to an avairy behind the scenes (where they accompanied with two black vultures, four Rüppellsvultures and three penguins).

- The penguin who escaped last year was in quarantine, because he was so alone, they have placed two other penguins with him. Now the keepers of the flyshow want them for the show.

- Other news of the fly show; the Stellers sea-eagle and the American sea-eagle are moved to an English falconery. There they will be coupled to an (fe)male to breed. Further they have receive 1.2 Von der Deckens tocks.

- At three new places are now Grey peacock-pheasants placed, I think 1.2, they are young.

- One of the young Stellers sea-eagles is moved, the other not yet. His/her parents begins with a new nest.

- The Rüppellsvultures have got four new nest boxes. In one of them breed a couple Rüppellsvultures and in the other three are already branches. In another nest I've seen the first egg! They have 15 Rüppellsvultures and 2 Griffon vultures in that avairy.

- At the end of November, there move six Scarlet ibissen to a zoo in Poland.

- At the lemur-group of Avifauna add two male Red-bellied lemurs. A female Crowned lemur moved to ZooParc Overloon where she will be paired to a male.

- The (only) Abdim's stork of Avifauna is now at the Cuba-avairy.. (s)he is sick.

So far my first update here. I hope you would like it and questions are welcome!;)
