I believe WMSP's original plan with the completion of the new enclosure was to build a herd around Five (instead of Sutton), requiring Sutton to be moved out (Noah's Ark seems an obvious choice with its bachelor herd currently only consisting of two individuals), and for a new breeding bull and cows to be brought in joining Five to breed (the latter was always going to be the difficult bit). However, as mentioned in my previous post on this matter, (which seems to have gone mostly unnoticed so I will quote it bellow) there are some problems with this scenario.
1. Whilst talking to an elephant keeper at Colchester Zoo 2 months ago amongst other things I was told that at the moment while the elephants settle into the new Protected Contact system, they are currently temporarily refraining from carrying out any major procedures and elephant moves, so if this is true information about Tembo moving to WMSP the move might not happen for a while...
2. In this conversation I was also informed that Tembo is no longer able to breed, so when Colchester Zoo resume attempts of breeding and building a herd after the current individuals are settled into PC, they will search for a new bull (and cows) to breed through A.I or naturally, so sounds to me like he won't be breeding at West Midlands either.
These are the mains aspects that confuse me of Tembo's supposed move to WMSP, and these points are explained further in my quoted post below, however good luck to Tembo and West Midlands Safari Park for the future, though if he does leave it will be sad to see Tembo go after nearly 25 years at Colchester Zoo.
