Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu at the Cincinnati Zoo - 2014

I thought there weren't going to be Meerkats anymore?

The new 2014 map was made over a couple of seasons ago. I know this because the Festival of Lights maps have already been made and printed out. So this shows that foxes were originally part of the plans, but after seeing other Africa plans, and because my coworkers still call it the "Meerkat area", it is safe to say meerkats will be home here.

The zoo has changed the species list for the African Plains exhibit on their website. And it will open on June 28th and members night has been moved to the 27th. Here's what it lists:
1. Lesser Kudu
2. Impala
3. Pink-backed Pelican
4. Thomson's Gazelle
5. Ostrich
6. Crested Guineafowl
7. Ruppell's Vulture
8. Lappet-faced Vulture

Also the wild dog area will be called the "Painted Dog Valley".

Just a few notes...

-Blakely's Barnyard is once again open in the Children's Zoo; however, all of the cattle, both miniature and Dexter, are now gone. They've been moved to the zoo's offsite farm and breeding center.

-The signage for the species in the mixed hoofstock yard is now up, as is a series of temporary tarp barriers to define the barriers of the enclosure for when the animals are introduced to the yard. (I was told this was supposed to happen a few days ago, but apparently it did not as the the barriers have been put up sometime between Wednesday and today). Informational pages on the new species have also been added to the website.

-It appears that it will, in fact, be bat-eared foxes that will be on display, and not meerkats. I have heard, however, that a meerkat exhibit may come alongside the hippo exhibit in the final phase of Africa.

-Upon opening, Painted Dog Valley will feature two dogs, a male from Brookfield and a female from Oglebay's Good Zoo. A third dog, another male, will be arriving from Franklin Park at a later date.

-Also, there is yet again construction work being done on the okapi and bongo yards... It seems as the construction there is never ending...

Is the signage for the species exactly what's listed on the website?

Sooooo, they're going to take an already small enclosure and make it even smaller so they can have Meerkats?

You cant go wrong when choosing an exhibit size for meerkats, I very much highly doubt it the exhibit will take up any valuable land space. They still have the whole left side of the paths that are untouched. He also says "may", and after being told about the budget problem there's no way they can take more chances of spending.

Good news, the guenons are still at the zoo but they are doing reintroductions for breeding.

The Grey's Crowned Guenons (Cercopithecus pogonias grayi)? I thought Cincy's pair were the only two in the country?

My thoughts exactly, but if you were interested in the zoo a couple years earlier than you were, you would have known that they also kept the same species in Jungle Trails. And they still had them in Gorilla World as well. So really they have two different groups.

So what are the numbers? 2.2?

I walked along the African Plains exhibit today and the Pelican sign was placed on the left on the enclosure. It's ironic because there is no body of water on that side. The wild dog exhibit is complete as well is the fox habitat. Extra fencing at wild dog just needs to be added. Both look beautiful and photos will be posted on the 27th.

OKay now I'm kind of getting desperate to know why bothIndian rhinos, bongos, and okapis are off exhibit. I know what Nikki was getting blood drawn, but that was a few days ago.
