Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu at the Cincinnati Zoo - 2014

As far as the hoofstock goes, today I heard "by fall"... So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Apparently, the reason we have had issues with the ostriches is because they were hand-fed at the farm they came from, so they think that every person has food when they don't.

Today was the zoo's annual Dollar Day, and I'm not sure how many people we ended up seeing overall, but by 3 o'clock, we had already seen 20,000 people. We were on set to have the largest Dollar Day turnout ever.

Dear Lord do not, please, please do not remind me. I don't think I'll ever recover from that.

There is a nice new Gorilla World sign that replaced the old one. Picture will be up in a bit.

Here's the new sign and apparently it's John's birthday.

This will be my last post but all I have to say is that Asha is still pregnant and passed her due date and the Passenger Pigeon Memorial will be complete in September.

The Red and Yellow Barbet from Wings of the World have been moved to the African Aviary in Jungle Trails

"Brahma", the male African painted dog recommended to breed with our female, will be arriving in two days.

A handful of birds have now taken up residence in the temporarily empty yards in the African veldt/Rhino Reserve. An East African crowned crane is in the bongo yard, the okapi/yellow-backed duiker yard is empty, a saddle-billed stork is in the right Indian rhinoceros yard (there are still two in Jungle Trails), and a female southern screamer is in the left Indian rhinoceros yard.

The zoo seems a bit out-of-sorts right now. It's odd to see all of the empty exhibits and temporary occupants right in the middle of their busiest time of year, particularly in a year when they are opening a major phase of their largest-ever exhibit.

I know I said I wouldn't post on this page but this is both scary and funny depending on the fate of this animal. A Ruddy Shelduck has fallen into the Lion exhibit and I'm not sure if any of the keepers are aware yet.
