jbnbsn99's Road Trip

I didn't provide any details on my last update. Probably should.

It's spring break here, which is looked forward to by teachers more so than by students. I needed to get out of town big time. I decided on a 5 day road trip through west Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. I had several target birds - California Condor, Elegant Trogon, and all 3 species of Rosy-Finch.

Surprising, I missed all of them.

Le sigh...

I did get to see the Grand Canyon though.

234 Hairy Woodpecker - Picoides villosus
235 Mountain Chickadee - Poecile gambeli
236 Red-breasted Nuthatch - Sitta canadensis
237 Western Scrub-Jay - Aphelocoma californica
238 Pygmy Nuthatch - Sitta pygmaea
239 Juniper Titmouse - Baeolophus ridgwayi
240 Steller's Jay - Cyanocitta stelleri

No Big Day of Birding this weekend but managed an Early Morning Mission to Cromford and Carsington.

106. Hawfinch - Coccothraustes coccothraustes

so that possum was just wandering around in the daylight? Lucky. I saw a ringtail possum in the day once, at Melbourne Zoo (a wild one).

Musk ducks are great, and weird, ducks.

Yup, the possum was just out the back at around 7.40am, which did seem rather late for it to still be up. It was very cool to see.

I was very happy to see the Musk Duck, it was fairly shy, but I got great views of it cruising around. Did you see one when you were in Melbourne?

yeah, there were two or three down by the bridge every time I passed (a male and one or two females). I was a bit surprised your current one was a lifer because of that.

A most probably last visit to Dierenpark Emmen yesterday yielded a mammal species that took quite some time to see this year....

A quick week end away with a mate to watch cricket in Hobart. Not a birding trip but I got 9 year birds and 5 were lifers so I was pretty happy. I also got a personal milestone of passing 400 birds for my life list.
