ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2020

Has anyone been to London since it reopened?

Yes i have visited - pleasant experience - normally around this time of year there are a high number of school and overseas students groups whereas now smaller groups of people who have specifically chosen to visit the zoo. Do you have any specific questions , i last visited yesterday ?

Thanks, no nothing specific. Was just wondering how it was going there. Am debating a visit, but with an hour train journey each way, plus travel within London, I wasn't sure if it would be a sensible decision to go or not.

I went the weekend after re-opening. Very 'safe' feeling and not too busy but that may have been the unpredictably heavy rain.

You will have seen that some of the animal houses have reopened but not the Clore (unfortunately for antsangy viewing purposes...), if that influences your decision.

Thanks! Yes, the animal houses are my usual main ports of call, especially the Clore. In the Before Times I wouldn't think twice about hopping on the train and the tube for the zoo, but with everything still so uncertain it's made me really consider things more

Edit: This has helped me realise I don't have a problem with going to the zoo itself, its the going that is the issue, the train and the tube. Not that it helps my decision making...

I sympathise with this view.
I am sure that visiting a zoo (especially a spacious one like Whipsnade) is safer than going shopping. However, eager as I am to go zoo visiting again, I'm still reluctant to use public transport especially as, in my experience, most people in London pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to the social distancing rules.

I will be visiting 25th and was wondering should I do a full review (Like I did for Chester) or shall I just do the highlights?

Are the Reptile house, Blackburn Pavillion, Bugs, Gorilla walk round, The Core & the Walk thru aviary open these days?

How does the one way system work around the zoo?

Any photographs anyone would like me to try and get?

Have a look at
https://www.zsl.org/sites/default/files/London Zoo Map with One Way Routes June 2020.pdf

which gives a view of the one way routes that exista although it is not accurate -
eg
In with the (squirrel monkeys) Monkeys closed
The Farmyard route is different -
Signage upon entry and in Barclay Court give the the available routes and list which route particulat exhibits are on.

IT has changed a bit on each of my visits.
This week (Tuesday) on your specifics
Reptile House - open
Blackburn Pavillion Open -- plus the external avaries around the side are now viewable.- the clock is turned off to avoid crowds gathering.
Bugs Open
Gorilla Walkthru entry access is by the side entrance by the Sulanwese Crested Macques, exit as normal.
The Lemur Walkthru (minus Aye Aye dark area) was open (face masks needed)
The top floor of Clore Rainforest was open (face masks required) - Night Life closed.
Bird Safari Aviary closed but several bird species visable from outside.

Okaki /Zebra the Giraffe and Pygmy Hippo Indoor Houses were closed.

Two Young Babirusa are now in the former Tapir enclosure outside the Casson.

Surprise Babirusa! Great additions to go along with the Red River Hogs.

And something that could work very well on the Casson.

So, along with the RRH and warthog, London’s the place for one’s fix of wild swine! When was the last time London kept 3 species of wild pig?
