ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2020

I will be doing a full review of the collection.
Please note though I will not be listing any species I don't see even though they might be signed for an enclosure this does not mean that the species is no-longer in the collection just the mere fact I didn't see it.
I will try to list the Reptile house by each exhibit and in the correct order from start to finish the rest of the collection will be as I go round the collection.
I have also booked many other collection visits for the future and hope to do the same with similar reviews.
If there are any specific enclosure reviews you would like just let me know
Stay safe all and enjoy your visits.

Is it wrong to say I am glad they didn't pay for this? :)

Absolutely not - I think a lot of us would’ve been pretty irritated to say the least if they’d spent a lot of money on something like this during a period of time when they’re running even lower on funds than usual!

I’m critical of ZSL in many ways but raising money costs money and I’m afraid it’s naive to think otherwise. Particularly now when so many organisations and charities are making appeals you need to stand out, be engaging and innovate.

Fairly certain I haven’t claimed to think fundraising doesn’t cost money! However it’s no small secret that ZSL have splashed out a lot more than they could/should have on many things in the past, so I think it’s pretty fair to say that yes, I’m glad that this didn’t put them even more out of pocket than they already are! :) and hope that it raises some much needed funds too

Can someone explain to me how and why the London zoo has decreased in quality over the years? I don’t quite understand why but I understand that it has.

How long do you want the reply to be? It will take a while, back to the early 1980s! Basically modern demands on enclosure size are a problem along with listed buildings that can't be converted. But these are not the only problems, much more could have been done with the zoos area with more imagination, without vast amounts of money being spent eg £6m on the lion development

Doesn’t matter I just need to know what happened.

As I’ve mentioned to others, a good place to start would be if you can get a copy of the documentary “The Ark” by Molly Dineen. This covers the crisis period of the early 1990’s wherein the ZSL found itself at risk of permanent closure, and the immediate after-effects. Some would say (myself included to an extent) that the ZSL has never truly recovered from this period and that lessons were never truly learnt...which leads us up to the present day.
