Akron Zoo Akron Zoo News 2022

I may be going next week. Does anyone know which birds are off-exhibit due to avian influenza risk? The website doesn't mention which specific species are not out for view.
I would also appreciate an answer to this question, especially in regards to the Grizzly Ridge Aviary. I'm looking into some possible zoos to visit in October, and this aviary would be one of the most appealing aspects of visiting Akron Zoo to me, so wouldn't want to go and find it closed.

Apologies if this is late and you already went, but I went today and the short answer is: Every single bird. Penguins, Flamingos, Condors, Buzzards, the owls in Pairie, the storks in Africa, and the entire Grizzly Ridge aviary is closed.

Thanks for the response. I have not visited yet, and will remove Akron from my possible day trip later this month. If I manage a second zoo along with Cleveland, I'll go with Erie instead.

Yep, that is where I ended up going and everything seemed as normal except for no Steller's sea eagles. This may change, of course.
I believe the Sea Eagles moved out of the lakeside cages a while back, before Aviary Flu. A few weeks ago the only things out were the vultures and parrots in African Savannah.

Which parrots in African Savanna? I thought African Savanna didn't have any parrots anymore.

I saw that. I tried to post it earlier, but I was having issues with ZooChat. The second phase is going to themed to Kenya as well. A bird habitat for Wild Asia is coming too. Plus Curious Creatures will likely be redone soon because it is passing its 3 to 5 years. It is a rotating area. The zoo’s current project, Garden View Place, should be done by year’s end and is for behind-the-scenes animal holding. This replaced the old barn in Wild Prairie.

If you missed it:
Pride of Africa II by 2028, Giraffes as a focal point

Awesome! I am sure Akron will do a great job on Pride of Africa II. I just wonder if

Do you know any specific species for the Wild Asia bird habitat and/or the expansion of Pride of Africa other than giraffes?

Seems like WP may be on the chopping block since it seems to be in the process of being replaced, with Garden View replacing the barn, most animals being gone, ect..

It is too early to know much on Pride’s Phase 2. Maybe we will know more after master planning. I am guessing species will have to be found in Kenya. The bird habitat is likely to be Bali mynah and white-winged wood duck. There could be additional species I guess, but these are two they are concentrating on for SSP. The habitat was in the original plans. The zoo received a large gift that will pay for this, red wolf back area expansion, and for conservation.

Question, are Akrons Komodos a supposed to be a breed couple or just roommates? I know Charlie and Padar switched zoo's so Charlie could breed, but what about Draco and Padar? They're not that much different in age/size

They have a breeding recommendation, but I have never seen them together. There is a back outdoor area one can be in when the other is on exhibit.
