I stand corrected, I hear he turned 18 a few weeks ago. A real testament to the care of his keepers.A very long life indeed, I believe 17 years. Quite the achievement for a Cheetah!

The old cheetah enclosure is empty and has been since the Hunting dogs returned to there original enclosure. However what goes in there is still a guess. There isn't room for a Cheetah in the Heart of AfricaWill there be any new Cheetahs for Heart of Africa?
To allow the African wild dogs to move in as their enclosure was surrounded by building work and inaccessible to visitors while Heart of Africa was being constructed. That's very sad to think, both Dartmoor and Chester Zoo have lost their remaining cheetah this year. I really hope Chester will acquire some more soon, why were they moved out of the original enclosure anyway?
Have they arrived in Chester yet or has the move been delayed, I have not heard anything lately?Chester is getting some new elephants: Movers and shakers at our conservation Zoos | Whipsnade Zoo
They're still crate training them at Whipsnade, but last news from there was it won't be too long before they move. I'd have to check the Whipsnade news thread but by the end of the summer rings a bell (and would make sense, chronologically speaking)Have they arrived in Chester yet or has the move been delayed, I have not heard anything lately?

They've been crate training for a while now, and they were initially supposed to move across last month, so it does appear the move has been slightly delayed. They're still crate training them at Whipsnade, but last news from there was it won't be too long before they move. They hadn't moved last Thursday (12th June) when I was last at Whipsnade however they should be moving soon.Have they arrived in Chester yet or has the move been delayed, I have not heard anything lately?
I'm not sure that this talkative gent was an official volunteer: he certainly did not convince us. I don't think that 2 elephants could arrive without being noticed or that they could be kept off-show for more than a day or two without closing the Elephant House. On 4th June a volunteer told Gentle Lemur and I the elephants had already arrived and were offshow in the Elephant House. He was not believed. He also said Iblis (Asian Lion) was 21. He is 18.
Not easy to hide an elephant…..I'm not sure that this talkative gent was an official volunteer: he certainly did not convince us. I don't think that 2 elephants could arrive without being noticed or that they could be kept off-show for more than a day or two without closing the Elephant House.

Are you sure it was a volunteer as they don't normally have a location by the elephants. Also, the ones I've spoken to have clothing clearly marked as volunteer. As an aside they will be changing their uniform (colour change) soon as part of the new branding.I'm not sure that this talkative gent was an official volunteer: he certainly did not convince us. One of the bat eared foxes has escaped for a second time in a few weeks. It still hasn’t been found since this morning. Hope she is found well.
@Pertinax, the way I read it ... it is at the Parque das Aves in Brasil.Doesn't the above report refer to the chicks being in Brazil rather than Chester? And it's three not one.
