I think they only realy moved him because of the building work,as for the keeper at Alpenhaul if its the one i`m thinking of he`s got good taste, seriosly it will be nice to see him back were he belongs,as for the fact of having 3 Males with the size of the house cannot see why it would be a problem.

Sibu's return also means that the two Borneans daughters can be paired up with Tuan and Sibu. Then I guess Martha could be rotated between the two pairs (or kept with leia, as she seems closest to her)

How old is Sibu?
I take it he's still got a fair number of years for potential breeding left in him.

So with Sibu back Chester would have 2.3 Borneans?

Sibu was born on 30th January 1976 to Dennis and Martha. So he is 32 and two weeks. Chester would have 2.3 Borneans.

Asiatic Lions...

I was at Chester Zoo on Wednesday, and during the Asiatic Lion talk, it was mentioned that the lioness 'Asha' was possibly pregnant again, but they didn't know when she might be due... hopefully she will rear her cubs this time round.

Also, whenever the Sumatran tigeress arrives, do you think Chester will keep hold of the Bengals, like make a new enlosure for them, or do you think they'll be shipped off else where?

paulkarli08, they've been saying that about the lions for over a month. As for the tigers, I think they'll be sent back to WMSP...

Oh right, i would've presumed she would have been due soon as they said on the Zoo Days programme that she came into season soon after the cub was born. It's a shame Asha isnt living up to Chandani, the old lioness, she was a great cat and a great mother.

Shame if the Bengals go back up to WMSP, they do make a nice attraction when their outside, they were stuck in the house on Wednesday whilst Kepala was ouside just pacing.

West Middlands doesnt have any space to take the two females back, or so i heard, it doesnt look like the sumatran female is arriving any time soon so theres no problem at the time.

Donk know where to post this, so i'll put in here. Nothing major just that 70 bats (20 Rodrigues and 50 Sebas) are moving to Belfast.

am i missing something here but doesn't 50 + 50 = 100 not 70?

How many bats to chester have?

Well apparently there is 660 Seba's and 91 Rodrigues...

Also I think only 20 Rodrigues bats are leaving so the total of 70 sounds right...

News from today, 16th February 2008

The Tarictic Hornbills have a next box again.

The mice in Secret World of the Okapi now have their own labels, and someone will still think they are shrews I bet.

The Writhed Hornbills now occupy the aviary at the other end of the row, the previous ocupants red-billed Curassows have gone next door to live with the Wrinkled Hornbills.

The female Wrinkled Hornbill was in the nest box.

At least two banded mongooses were in the small enclosure where the Yellow Mongooses used to be.

Building work is being carried out between the chimp island and the hyacinth macaw aviary. No indication as to what this is, there were a lot of breeze blocks and a big bag of sand.

Not much to report really.

.

I forgot to report the first two the other day...

I think the construction is related to the phillipine croc exhibit

Sibu.

That's debatable as he's only got half a member ;) (true or false?)

In case you just thought I was being dirty, I wasn't...;) I believe some years ago while he was still at Chester he experimented with the ring-pull opener of a fizzydrink can and amputated part of his anatomy in the process.
It won't lessen any interest in a female but it could well compromise his mating abilities....

Some news from today:

Baby Geoffroy's marmosets

Baby agoutis (Born on the 12th february)

There are Junglefowl in all of the outdoor aviaries near the elephant house. In the peafowl exhibit and both the squirrel enclosures.

Only one male great indian hornbill in the Elephant house. The female appears to have moved to the old writhed hornbill aviary.

Only one female great indian hornbill in the big tropical realm aviary.

There was a lot of activity in the Timor sparrow aviary, keepers were looking through the nest boxes for unhatched eggs and any chicks that had not made it...

Flamingoes were in their house.

Socorro doves are in the top row of aviaries in the tropical realm.

I'll post more if I remember...:D

The flamingoes were inside for most of my visit as well, however they were filming just outside so I assumed it was related to that...

The flamingos were out when I went yesterday, all the Caribbean flamingos were standing on the island in the middle of the enclosure, I've never ever seen a flamingo on the island before. Later in the day (approx 1.30pm) both species had been shut in.
