The zoos lone male Gharial has been sent to the Fort Worth Zoo on a breeding loan.
A large group of high ranking zoo brass including Zoo Director Dr. Chris Kuhar and general curator Andi Kornak walked the zoos ticket plaza today. They all had blueprints and maps and from what I gathered they were discussing a revamped main zoo entrance. This coincides with recent conversations I've had with multiple keepers who expect big changes to be coming soon.

Kitra a 12 yr old female Sumatran Orangutan will soon be heading to the Oregon Zoo.

Cleveland has Borneans not Sumatrans. Tiram and Kayla will be going through empty nest syndrome. Kera Wak is still their, but she is not their biological child. I will miss my little girl. Is there any news of anyone moving in with Daniel's and now Kitra's departure? If my beloved Kayla has another kid now with Tiram, lets hope for a girl. Their sons have been naughty little boys.
Your right about them being Bornean and not Sumatran in Cleveland. With the Oregon Zoo exhibiting Sumatrans it makes it possible that Portland is not where Kitra is sent. However we'll stand by the fact that she is moving somewhere in the near future since we've hear it from several reliable sources.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo 10 Year Plan
http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/...es/Presentations/Zoo 10 Year Capital Plan.pdf
Thanks to The Cleveland Foundation's 100th-anniversary gift of free admission to the zoo for the community at-large, CMZ set a new, single-day admission record of 35,701 people, breaking the old record by over 11,000 people (...24,746 on 13 June 2011).
The weather was cool, but nice, and I truly hope everyone had fun; I hope the experience garners even more interest for the park, but despite it's size, I cannot fathom a crowd of that size inside the park. I know traffic and parking issues snarled the area, but I have to believe things reached the "too crowded to be fun" level. Having said that, most of the media feedback appears to be very positive, so, what do I know...?
