Banham Zoo Banham Zoo News

I noticed the geoffroy's cat enclosure is now another Pallas cat home yesterday (at least labelled as such), although I only saw one in the end section.
I hope Banham isn't about to become yet another zoo with a diminishing cat collection!

2 Sri Lankan Leopard cubs have been born :)

Saw them today; one is quite adventurous, climbing around the den and also having some meat to eat. The other appears quite timid and unsure still, choosing to spend most of the time at the back of the den.

Unfortunately I only had my camera phone with me so the photos I got aren’t that good, but will upload them as soon as I work out how.

Thrigby and Amazona tomorrow....

I thought I'd post the first news from Banham for 2018. The zoo expect to receive their first sealion today/tomorrow from Zoologischer Stadtgarten Karlsruhe. It is a male called Emmett. The article on their facebook page suggests Banham will be receiving to females to keep him company, from another collection.

Any photos anywhere? I couldn't see any on the website.

Sorry, should've read 2 are onshow. My minds a bit scrambled from jetlag. Will try and find out where the others are from.

I've got a picture of the enclosure from 16th Feb, but i can't seem to upload it. It doesn't seem very big though, I thought it would have been bigger imho. I'm going back on Wednesday , maybe it'll look better with the sea lions in.

How do you know the official opening is Friday? I can't find any comms about it :(

Its on their FB page to win tickets:

Banham Zoo

Ah thank you! I'm not a big facebooker. Weird there isn't anything on the website (or Twitter) eh?

Exciting times anyway. Does anyone remember if banham had sea lions before? I'm sure I remember visiting when I was a kid and seeing them on the right just a little way down after you enter? Perhaps where the dwarf Mongoose now live or there about?

According to Zootierliste, they had South American Sea Lions previoulsy. I've only been visiting in the last 4 years and am sure they were there then; isn't this a renovation job rather than a new feature?

They had the Fur Seals for many years. I believe the pool has been renovated, rather than a new build.

Visited today, and saw the five sealions swimming in their new enclosure. The enclosure is still fenced off but I could see them swimming around. 1 young male from Karlsruhe, a young female from Rotterdam and 3 came from Blackpool (1:2). Pictures of the sealion pool below:
