I Went today too!
The Flamingoes were in when i went to see them too. I Cant really mention anything else as hornbill has said everything i think. Are the squirrels still there or have they left.

Hornbill, when you say 'baby Geoffroy's marmosets' do you mean newly born, like this month? How many would that make?

I was there today too. There was ice in the flamingoes pond so I think they were kept inside as a precaution as they can sometimes be frozen into place and end up with broken legs. They don't mind the cold though.

Re Sibu - I thought that he had bred at Chester previously, to the surprise of everyone due to his injury, perhaps someone can confirm.

How big do Philippine crocs grow to? Because despite the renovation/deepening of the alligator pool the enclosure isn't going to be impressively big.

It was discussed earlier in this thread and they are apparently medium sized crocodiles, so I'd say they are perhaps a bit smaller than the alligators. They should have adequete space...

In case you just thought I was being dirty, I wasn't...;) I believe some years ago while he was still at Chester he experimented with the ring-pull opener of a fizzydrink can and amputated part of his anatomy in the process.
It won't lessen any interest in a female but it could well compromise his mating abilities....

it was a ring off a sugar dummy !!!!!!!!!!

oh, okay, I was close but not absolutely correct.:)

Did Sibu have any offspring already- and has he had any since that unfortunate 'accident'. Do the zoo still hope to breed from him now(if he's able) or is it just a matter of rehousing him at Chester?

Actually, thinking about it, he may just be housed at Chester rather than bred from, seeing as they are re-doing the island for him rather than moving him into the realm...

... also he's related to at least two of the females- Martha is his mother, Sarikei his sister or halfsister. Can't remember if he has any relationship to Leia.

Do you want some big news from Chester? Yeah, yeah, yeah .... :D

Asian elephant Thi Hi Way has given birth on 18 February 2008 to a healthy male calf. It was the longest pregnancy recorded for her. The birth has been well received by the entire group. :p
