Detroit Zoo Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo has received a 4yr male lion named Simba from the Royal Family of Qatar. The family originally received Simba as a gift and later realized he would be better off in a different enviroment.

Simba joins female lions Bikira 20 and Erin 11 in a newly renovated exhibit.

AZA is expected to at some point recommend another female be sent to the zoo with the intent to breed with Simba and start a family.

From the zoo's facebook page:
Many of you have been anxiously awaiting news of a giraffe birth. We are sad to tell you that Kivuli gave birth to stillborn twin calves early Monday morning. Twins are extremely rare in giraffes, but we don't know if that was a factor in the stillbirths. Animal care staff have been closely watching Kivuli for several months in anticipation of her first birth, and everyone is saddened by the loss. Our veterinarians are conducting post-mortem studies to learn more about the calves, and Kivuli continues to be closely monitored.

Wild lights (Christmas light display)set to return to the zoo this year.:)According to the zoos facebook page.
